Things seem to be shaping up in Canterbury.

It'll be in the next few hours (perhaps 5-6pm on) that the good development should take place as the dynamics associated with a colder valued cold front comes over the Alps from the west.

Dark based cloud appearing where this lot developed before. Could be another shower? What a bonus.

Dogmelon in Hornby said,
Just opened up here in Hornby. HUGE drops,

I see Chch Airport mid afternoon had 23C /dewpoint 10C, good numbers for local heavy showers down there.

Good Sunday afternoon weather up here, wet and breezy.

Things have cleared up somewhat with the warm sun returning and Breezy Westerly wind now.
Only got a few spits of rain here but otherwise mainly dry.
Will be watching for when the southerly hits tonight :) .
Cheers
Jason.

Pouring in Welly

Consistent rain at 15mm an hour here, very wet.
It has the potential to bring down further slips.

24deg in Amberley too, wind has been moderate to fresh NW then W all day. No showers here, but it did look black to the south, so not surprised to hear of showers over Chch.

Still Pouring

Unread post by dazza99 »

It is still pouring in Wellington, we have just had the local fire siren go off twice in the last half hour and have fairly major run off from the hills, not looking good , especially on top of all the rain early last week.

Wellington today....

Unread post by Shepherds Valley WX »

Very windy day here in Upper Hutt accompanied with some very heavy and squally rainfall. So far the daily total is 40.2mm (231.2mm for the month here at my site in Pinehaven) with a temperature of 9.7C. I'd be interested to see what other observers have recorded around the district and there obs. Currently heavy rain with 30kmh NW Wind here....

37 mm of rain recorded for the day at Tawa to 22:00.
max rain rate was 41.9 mm/hr at 17:31.
The rain fell between 13:30 and 19:00 so the run-off has been impressive, as the ground hasn't recovered from Tuesday's "rain party."

On Tuesday we rolled past a metre of rain for the year to date, and have now reached 1045 mm. Month to date is 144 mm.

Mother nature is having a bit of fun with alternate wet and dry months.
That's life in the windy isles...

Seemed like the rain became lighter as it got further north.

9.2mm here, Rotorua picked up a good 30mm while Kuratau got 41mm.

Thunderstorm risk (or what's left of it) is subsiding rapidly now over NW SI/Taranaki/Horowhenua.

Fresh to strong westerly tomorrow with the change.

Edit: Youch these showers are heavy! :D

Just been driving home from my mums and the sky to the S or SW lit up with a bolt in there somewhere. Got back home and then saw another flash to the south. Not very frequent but associated with that cold front to come up overnight by the looks, was cool to see!

Hopefully something more? We'll see.

Cheers

surface flooding less than 20km away from me in Marton and Ohakea, however we just had one shower all day (16mm). Rain came through at 6pm and temp dropped 6.4 degrees in 15 mins.
My rain meter recorded quite a few more spikes from wind gusts (always a Northerly) battering it today :x
