I see they give the weather outlook by region which is much better than a general NZ outlook.

Awesome! Just what I've been waiting for... 3 hours is too long when something is developing

Hey great to see our tax being put to good use!! :D ;)

How often does the rain/wind champs model update? Is it based on a UKMO run? And how long does it then calculate for you guys to run this MM5.

Cheers :)

I think the rain meso-model updates 4 times a day and uses the US GFS model. It generally takes 6-8 hours after data time to produce the maps, but I'm not sure how often the images on the website update - winzurf will know the answer to that one.

MetService seem to be stepping into new territory with the seasonal outlook pages...more competition for NIWA?! :?

Does anyone know what model(s) they are using for that rain/wind forecast? I see it was quite a bit ahead of READY/GFS in moving rainfall further into Saturday here..

Hey I just like that I can use my mouse's scrolling wheel to forward or back the rain and sat maps
