Well nice day here again warm at the moment on 24.5C and a fresh gusty westerly great night for xmas in the park 8) although could be the odd shower mainly about the peninnsula though.
Looks like thunder is looking likly tomorow now :D so hopefully all shall go ahead certainly feels like that time of year when storms can get firing.
Today in 2004 we had a thunderstorm that was the roll cloud storm of which I got my first lightning on camera.
Cheers

Few strikes being picked up from down south now, Oamaru way. Clearish skies here now. Wait and see what happens. Might add looks like there are some pretty heavy hail showers amongst this aswell.

Wow, the Invercargill sounding has a very unstable lapse rate. Very cold down there. The onshore flow over Canterbury should provide good convergence with the inland westerly to produce a thunderstorm or two.
Hopefully some storm pics coming from down that way today :)

Just back from two nights in the Catlins. Cold. Hail and showers were frequent yesterday morning and again at night. Blimin' loud in a tent when it's hailing. :D

Pretty cold again today and as we drove to Dunedin a large grey bank of cloud lay to the north. Seems to be pushing in from the west now. Hopefully a rumble to come?

It isn't doing much. Haven't heard any thunder yet. Can see through the rain curtain thing.

Seems to have come to a hault possibly because of all this mid layer cloud once again  but usually a storm would suck that mid layer cloud into itself.
Quite annoying not being able to see the storms because I can't even get any photo's :x .
Plenty more time to come yet :P .

Yes few loud saferics returning to the radio now.

Went done to Ashbourton this afernoon didnt see much on way down, coming back toward ChCh drove thru heavy rain and hail, probably up to about 10-12mm hail. Heard abit of thunder and saw a few flashes. Not really any good photo oppourtunites as there was alot of crappy cloud around and it was pouring down.

Although I dont think that is completly finished today, still Tstorms firing down south.

Winds here have been all over the place today. Gusty mild NW early morning changed light cool SW by 8am. Fresh cool NE by early afternoon died and went moderate mild NW for an hour or so mid afternoon, then light SW. Now fresh cool S-SE and some rain. Looked like a huge CB anvil covering the whole of the southern half of the sky as the change moved north, but no thunder heard here yet.

Edit: By 8pm rain had cleared (6mm) and winds have gone back NE!
