The sky was somewhat ominous a couple of hours before the storm hit in Christchurch

Finally one of those black clouds opened up over me. No thunder though.

I was working at Hillmorton when the storm hit - well it hit other parts of Chch. I heard some thunder and the clouds looked mean, but only experienced a few large raindrops. Coming back home to central Chch, the roads were dry, so the heaviest precipitation must not have hit near where I live. (near the Antigua Boatsheds) A rain shower arrived not long after I got home at about 6pm.

Got some late pics before and managed to catch our storm CB out east.
Interesting to hear thunder 2 days in a row for November something I would expect to see more in mid December xmas time.
So does this mean an interesting storm season ahead ;) :D lets hope so.
Cheers
Jason.

Storms were ok'ish today, but probably because I was working and couldn't really get out there amoungst it :x . Still, I get the feeling they weren't that great.

Saw a flash of forked lightning but that was it, heard a few booms of thunder to. I think a little further north into the plains than from my position here in Templeton would've been better.

Took a few photo's and will put them up tomorrow.;)

Missed out on the other ones on Sunday to! Otherwise I wouldn't taken a drive down to Ashburton etc, however Steven Graham mentioned alot of rain and cloudy conditions meant things weren't overly impressive. But the build up and start of the storm there in Ashburton I think could've been good.

Ciao

Well i guess i did abit of storm chasing myself Aaron  as it was quite fluky i was driving home from work and ended up going right in the direction of the storm and going directly underneath the storm with my car getting pounded by good pea size hail :D
I reckon if i hadn't of left (QE2 work) i would have missed it.
Was a wack day today! 8)

Here are a few shots of the storm which passed to the north of
Templeton. I saw a couple of lightning flashes through the fallstreaks and heard half a dozen rumbles of thunder.

The convection was probably enhanced by convergence at the time the coldest upper air arrived, with a light S-SW here but a NE reported at the airport as confirmed by the direction the aircraft is heading.

It wasn't the biggest storm iv experienced obviously but the hail was reasonable and the lightning and thunder.

In Marlborough for a short break. Cloudy and mild with some sunny patches, quite warm in Blenheim. A few strong wind gusts on the Blenheim-Picton highway but nothing to scare a Wellingtonian ;) . So far the "big blow" hasn't eventuated at this end of the province - may be different from Grassmere south, can't tell from here.

Looks like a messy low to cross the country in the next 24hrs with rain for most areas. A high chance of thunder on the SI West Coast, just a low chance elsewhere I think. (high chance in Canterbury if the southerly hits after 12pm)

Looks to be a high chance of thunderstorms over the North Island ranges Friday.
