Nice day here in chch.
Didn't really take much notice of the weather today though was a beaut morning though not a cloud in the sky, i like those mornings once in a while doesn't hurt!
Another sunny day to be well enjoyed and more to come.
Could get into the early 30's on Thursday for many eastern south and north Island area's especailly with abit of a heatwave over NSW at the moment with Sydney chasing a high of 38C tomorrow.
Bring on the NWer I say .
Nothing too thundery on the outlook although Monday is throwing out a slight hint and it's looking quite changeable next week too.
Only thing is there is alot of North Westerly winds before the changes so dry air .
Cheers
Jason.
Wow i see timaru is currently sitting on 29.5C. Starting to warm up in CHristchurch too!!!! 25C and rising northwester just hit us about 30mins ago before that a north easter
Well do the sums and take off Aucklands forecasted maximums...2 for today,1 for yesterday,2 the day before and so on ,its always over estimated of late
Compie wrote:forecast for 18 and sitting on 29 not bad, we'll take that any day
Got home about an hour ago was abit gusty but not sure if it had been real strong here certainly was quiet in town but also hot.
Was Northerly for much of the day until around about 1pm when the NWer broke through and 29.7C here which isnt bad for sun hidden behind high cloud for much of the day.
Perhaps another hot one tomorrow as the Heatwave from NSW is still moving across got to 40C in Sydney I heard yesterday.
Keep an eye on Monday .
Cheers

MetService has predicted a small risk of thunderstorms on Banks Peninsula later tomorrow with a disturbance crossing over. I don't think so - the airflow looks too westerly. More likely in the far south.
Yes Tich way too dry for anything to get going just a quick dry windchange around evening.
Like I said before Monday could possibly be something to watch for .
Wonderful evening here currently 24.8C with a strong gusty NWer at times great evening for a soak in the pool .
Cheers

Well, we (Sydney) are forecast to have another heatwave next Wed/Thu with temps up to 40oC again, so will probably see NZ having high temps again next weekend.
Thinking of the correlation of hot, dry NW winds that affects the east coast of both countries.
What would be the highest temperature recorded for Canterbury for Nov? Can remember from memory that the highest Nov temp NZ wide was 33oC at Napier in NW conditions? Confirmation?

I got home last night about 10.30pm and there were flashes in the sky. I assumed they were what I call "Wildfire", flashes in the west on a hot NW night with no thunder. Anyhoo I was told today that there was a large lightning storm out to sea (behind the hill I live on) that lasted about 2hrs.
Nuts
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.
well there appears to be a quite unstable S coming through its still a NW at the mo but there is abit of cu bubbling away, especially over the BP.
I don't think we will get any thunder but it has looked abit unstable this arvo here in Christchurch. good signs too come of course
Yes a few weak CU forms going up here and there in the typical S-SE direction under a NW windflow.
Also perhaps a heavy shower or two on the peninnsula but nothing thundery way too dry for anything to really get going.
Not bad on 26C today and more warm days to follow .
A few chances coming up Monday and Wednesday maybe .
Tomorrow is one month until xmas day ekkk.
Cheers
Jason.
Looked quite dark to the west and southwest in the last hour or so, but hasn't come to anything (yet). Radar shots show mostly light showers spreading up the coast to Banks Peninsula. Also looked like quite alot of virga around.

All that threatening dark cloud amounted to was 1 pathetic little shower that lasted a few minutes and didn't wet the ground shortly after my last post. Still alot of cloud around, but latest radar shows any light showers in Canterbury starting to fizzle out.
Which is a pitty because the wind has turned breezy NE here would have been good against some showers moving up on that trough.
very weak southerly change though only lasted about 10 minutes then was completly dead .
