Thunderstorms/Hailstorms for inland Otago (03/12/2006)

Unread post by GreggWard »

As per Metservice Thunderstorm Outlook web page:
Valid to: 12:00 am 4 Dec 2006 NZDT
Issued at: 9:33 am 2 Dec 2006 NZDT

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop about inland parts of Otago on Sunday afternoon and continue into the evening, probably moving eastwards out towards the Otago coast. These storms are expected to be squally and produce hail up to 20mm in diameter. There is also a risk a few of the hailstones could even be as large as 25-30mm inland.

Elsewhere, scattered afternoon showers are expected about South Canterbury and Southland. There is a low risk some of these showers could produce thunder and hail, with the risk being higher about inland Southland.

No thunderstorms are expected over the North Island on Sunday.

Obviously hasn't come to much down south today alot of high cloud here though with 19C at midday dropped back abit now though.
Possibly a low to moderate chance for thunder here tomorrow probly more inland as MS depicts on thier chart but also about the coast later on as more showers redevelope.
So a small watch tomorrow anyway 8) .
Like this time of year inspite of the xmas rush i do enjoy the festive side to it all plus good time for thunder :D.
Cheers

Did look abit unstable late this afternoon for awhile with towering CU going up hasnt really come to much so far yet.
Lightly raining now with heavy showers on radar to the west.
Wind has just turned back to the southerly after being NE from 4pm until now.
Cheers
