janewaystv: As you can see, only Wellingtonians and to a lesser extent Hamilton people might have some justification for complaint as far as the main centres go for Spring stats.

Spring weather in Auckland is very poor, I prefer our June weather to November weather.

Yes, but we're talking relative to averages, NOT absolutes. And don't forget that this year your June & July were unusually sunny though cold at times.

Auckland recorded 201 hours of sunhine - not far behind Sydneys total of 222 hours !.

Yes - I can see the cause of complaints of Nov. weather in the west of the NI from Waitako to Kapiti and also the W and S of the SI.

November 2006 Waimauku, Auckland
Maximum Temperature: 27.3°C (Friday 17 November)
Lowest Maximum: 14.5 °C (Thursday 09 November)
Minimum Temperature: 6.1 °C (Thursday 02 November)
Highest Minimum: 18.4°C (Friday 17 November)
Total Rainfall: 105.0 mm
Days with rain: 12 out of 30 days
Most rain: 24.0 mm (Wednesday 08 November)
Highest pressure: 1029 mb (Saturday 04 November)
Lowest pressure: 994 mb (Thursday 09 November)

Comparison to previous Novembers, cooler, and more rainfall (which is very useful going into summer... water in the tank is like money in the bank)

Not quite so much the W & S of the SI because compared to some El Nino events they've had a fair amount of sun despite the rainfall. In fact the sun YTDs for Westland and Southland are far above average. But it has been really dismal in Manawatu-Horowhenua, and W'gton has had a very high count of 60kph+ days - along with being cooler and wetter.

"Of the five main centres, spring was especially pleasant in Dunedin. Dunedin again was easily the driest..."

We may be paying for it now however.

For Wellington, this spring certainly wasn't as bad as that of 1992, which was a further 0.4C-0.5C colder, just as wet and much duller (record low sun, a whole 90 hours less than this one). Admittedly it was much less windy but it was bleak and miserable - and followed by a cold summer which started with the dullest December on record.
