Theres a definite smoky haze high up now that the nimbostratus has cleared. The sunlight hitting the ground has that particular yellowy-orange hue that you get when it is shining through smoke.
I can't see any smoke on satellite pics of Aus. Have the wind currents been right to bring it over Otago? Seems to be a very thick haze up there in the upper levels.

What an incredible pattern those clouds make Spike
I think it is more smoke Janos, was a very thick haze from about 5pm and that peculiar colour again. Right now I can see lines of crimson around the setting sun. When the sun was higher there were also distinct patches of blue haze that formed around the fringes of high cloud masses.
