I reckon you are on the ball there....the Geonet website plots the icebergs in that general vicinity. I'm surprised the media hasn't made that link!

To be fair I stole the idea from James in the other thread. Seems like an iceberg would reflect a lot of light, and even objects as small as they must be by now would stand out in the dull blue sea.

Another feature I like is Red Hill below Nelson. It is a flagwaving mutation in the genes of the South Island's geological evolution, as I understand it, and man doesn't it look out of place. Looks like it dropped in from Aus.

Not from Oz- Mt Aspiring/ Fiordland actually. Thats where you find the other half of the Red Hills mountains....at the other end of the Apline Fault conveyer belt.

Kinda scary to think about really!

It makes the distances between the places you like to drive between look so small yet it takes ages driving in a car. Very interesting.
