The Nikon 5700 does not have the ability to use filters out of the box, unless you buy a 3rd party adaptor - there are several on the market... this will further increase the cost of the 5700.

I had to buy a Canon conversion lense adapter for the G5 to accomadate filters.

This web site originally put me onto the G3. I found the staff in photographic shops to be totally unhelpful in helping me make a wise choice. Anyway, luckily the G5 had just hit the market but the retail price was $1,800. I had to barter to get the price down.
The above site does excellent reviews and this is how they grade the respective cameras.

After reading the thread on the Australian forum I bought a Nikon 5400 from ETown - I wanted the longer bulb/timed exposure for astronomy so that was the only reason I didn't get a G5.
The Nikon 5400 can also use the optional Nikon "lens hood" to accept 77mm filters.
http://www.flashcards.co.nz is a good place to get camera memory and they also have cheap(er) LiIon batteries.
