What I remember of the 1999/2000 year was in Auckland we had lots of "gales" from the SW until later in February.

Well we didn't get a squeak out of it :( Just more saturated low cloud with beggar-all wind or rain.

Mind you, that (L) in the Tasman could be interesting following all this warm wetness....?

What's happening up North this afternoon? The Rain Radar looks a little dull. But that is from 1pm.

An isolated thunderstorm over the Kaipara region and Isolated cb's over the Waikato after 5pm. (as Brian observed).

Met Service lightning strike chart shows alot of hits over North Auckland yesterday, so we just missed out here in Auckland city.

Cloudy and very humid in Auckland today with Just a few Cu showers . There will be more sunshine around tomorrow in the north so there should be some good build ups over high ground in the afternoon.

The cloud has cleared this morning in central Chch, and it looks like it could get really warm (already about 18C). The humid air from up north is supposed to reach us here, but it doesn't feel muggy yet. (it's all relative though - what's muggy to us wouldn't be noticeable to Aucklanders) I guess the airflow is more north than northeast here - critical for Chch, as it often means the difference between a cool onshore wind bringing low cloud (northeasterly), and a warm, sunny day. (northerly)

On my way from Dunners to Chch at lunchtime for the weekend. Just need some good weather for Saturday though and it looks like a hot one.

I wish it was for a Storm Chasing trip, but it looks like I'll need the sunscreen instead ;)

After yesterdays top of 33, we are set for another scorcher.
And the farmers will cry as the drought continues.

Temp already 26 with mainly blues skies with a little cirrus at times.

As I write this message, I hear thunder.... :)
28c right now too!!!!
This is as close as it gets to tropical weather like Tonga.
Why does Alexandra get so warm? is it because they are at sea level and sheltered by the alps?

it was 27oc at auckland airport at 3pm
now, this cb is not far from me now, according to the rain radar...
just south of the auckland CBD, in the manukau harbour by the looks

inland otago:
30oC there has low humidity levels, so its no where as bad as 28oc here with 21oC dew point!!!

Have moderate rain and some Thunder over central Auckland from decaying Cb cloud. Can see active Cb clouds to the south (may be 50km away).

I saw the good clouds to the north around lunchtime building. Later on around 2 pm I headed south to visit a friend in Middlemore and could admire a very nice looking Cb in my rear view mirror while I was on the motorway ;)

After the hospital visit, I had a quick look to the south (nice tops!) and headed north through the motorway slog home. Thought I may have got hammered by the Cb over the city as it looked very dark and the potential for lots of rain... got hardly any... Maybe another Cb to my north here at home, but can't see for sure with some low cloud in the way.
