What's rain?
Is that the wet stuff that falls from clouds? ;)

Its good that common clear wet stuff has stopped and the sky went this funny blue colour and a strange yellow ball was shining :)

Had a few drops of rain here today - My 10yo daughter started crying because she didn't know what it was!

Oh for a tropical low to liven things up...!

Just looking in todays NZ Herald, the wettest main centre to date is Rotorua which has recorded 119mm so far this month, the driest Christchurch on 0.2mm. Rainfall figures for the NI though have been inflated by brief downpours.

My records tell me that the lowest December rainfall total recorded at Christchurch Airport is 5mm. Christchurch City 1mm. ;)

Yes, Take a look out the window - it's actually raining in Chch this morning. 1st proper (ie more than a few spits) rain for sometime. Though I doubt whether it'll make too much difference, as gusty northwestserlies seem very likely to follow. But it's better than nothing at all.

WOW!
Rain falling as I type.
1.5mm in the gauge to 10am this morning.
First decent drop since November 27th.
I think that this is fairly coastal as it looks drier inland (haven't checked the R.Radar yet)
Anyway, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone on this forum as we are off on holiday.
Back in early Jan.

Just a trace of the wet stuff early morning..

Back to blue sky and warm temps, no sign yet of the blusterly Nor Wester as expected. ;)

We got 2.5mm out of the front in Invercargill this morning. Now blue skies and quite warm at 1400 with a fresh NE.

MetService's latest forecast makes no mention of gales for Canterbury or other eastern areas for today nor tomorrow. But the latest Severe Weather Outlook suggests a 'low' likelihood of these gales for Friday and Saturday in the same areas (+ Fouveaux Strait). For the last few days there was a 'moderate' likelihood of severe northwesterly gales in these areas for today and tomorrow.

Now sunny in Chch with only scattered cloud, but the temperature is only in the high teens, about 10C lower than the predicted maximum. (that's the difference between the predicted northwesterly, and the actual northeasterly we're getting) I don't know when it cleared up, as I was in a cinema watching Hobbits battling Orcs, alot more gripping action than today's weather in Chch.

Warmed up in Christchurch now too, 29.6 and sunny at 5:20pm. Quite a change from the weather at the work BBQ at midday, overcast and not feeling very summery with the NE wind.

Your station Jeff showed a rise from about 20C a few hours ago to 29C (today's predicted high) now! It definitely feels alot warmer.
