Invercargill had a decent thunderstorm and heavy snow and hail around 1830 to 1900 . Lots of drifted hail and snow in gutters around Richmond and Queens Park area . Still occasional showers of soft hail drifting through

Yes it is close to 5am, but I've just come back from Porters Pass and it's heavy snow up there all the way down just past Springfield and then light snow just past Sheffield and sleet in Darfield. Hopefully it turns to snow!!! :D

MetService said that they didn't pick the rain/sleet/snow for Canterbury this morning as they did expect the wind to be more SWW

Will be interesting to see what the front brings to Canty later in the day

West of SW flow Dunedin City has some sheltering from the Hill country to the SW but there's plenty of active Cb cloud still to move through I see. Tends to mostly catch Balclutha south but also gets into Strath Taieri to the west of Dunedin.

The graphics maybe basic but the accuracy seems to right up there.
Well done Fencepost they seem to hit the nail fair a square on the head.

I had a good initial fall at my house at 8.30am this morning. Big flakes and covered the road even but obviously was gone after 30 mins.
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Sunny now in Chch after a bit of rain overnight; maybe some sleet too, as it was reported at Airport. (got down to 2C in city) Snow on tops around Akaroa; haven't seen Port Hills yet, but probably not.

Sure did blow a gale from the SW at about 3am woke me up I thought there was an earthqauke  .
Also a little bit of precipitation not sure if it was just rain or there was some ice in the mix, but it was 3C at 6:30am when going to fetch the paper.
Yes a light dusting of snow on Mt Herbert and even thicker dusting further back looking more E-SE sumner way, would be about 300-400m perhaps.
Be interesting to see what happens along this next change its currently NE and sunny at the moment.
Cheers
Jason.

Within the next 2-3 hours i am hoping :? interesting to see clouds developing by themselves as a result of this onshore fresh NE wind :-k NE against upper level S-SW which could well get colder soon.
Tracker has been showing a few strikes offshore not sure how accurate it is.
Cheers

Yes certainly did rain abit last night, early hours of this morning! wasn't heavy though. poked my head out the window and it felt cold!
There is a good amount of snow that has fallen on banks peninsula, i wouldnt of been surprised if it was sleeting early this morning!

Shame the snow missed the Otago Skii fields( just light falls there) the deeper shower cloud passed east of fiordland, moved through Southland out to the NE.

Only 0.4mm of rain here at west Melton, 2.6mm at the hospital in Halswell.
Never heard the wind this morning.
Light NE here all day until 6pm when it went southerly.
Becoming fine now with a light westerly and down to 3°C

Precipitation obviously moving offshore from Canterbury now - this afternoon's cloud didn't come to anything. But tomorrow afternoon could be interesting - hail and sleet may be possible. (I imagine this could be a classic thunderstorm scenario if it was to happen in a warmer month)
