I've just read my emails and had one from dad in Wellington.
On his drive home from work, driving from the Hutt to Porirua, he went over the haywards hill road. He said he drove through a snow flurry. Don't know if i believe him or not. This was around 4.30ish. I guess it could have been a sleety shower.

Ok whats the big friggin deal Christchurch. Work made me fly up here for Monday to Wednesday and I'm missing all the snow in Dunedin. I heard the Motorway in Dunedin is closed and my partner just managed to get the little car up the hill, so I'm missing that.
It's certainly feels cold here. WHERE'S THE SNOW?

Light precipitation on and off in central Chch; probably sleet mixed with rain, but I haven't seen any flakes yet.sleet outside in redwood now very light tho
North Island seems to be copping the icy air now - only 3C in Taupo and 9pm and 2C at Takapau Plains earlier, both with recent precipitation. Napier-Taupo and Desert Roads closed by snow. (former just reopened, but for how long?)

This has happend before from memory the showers only seem to make it so far north before petering out as it's still dry here and the clouds just are not producing anything at all here.
Definatly a lack of moisture although now unlike before I can't see the moon .
The Port hills will be getting a good amount falling.
Cheers
Jason.

We don't often get snow falling in Wellington, but it was trying hard today! Today's southerly was what many of us call a “lazy southerly†- too lazy to go round – it just cuts straight through you.
We face north from the southern end of the deep valley that trends north from Tawa to Porirua and its harbour. After a near-frost overnight, the temperature here at Tawa has hovered between 5 and 8C all day with continuous squalls coming through from the south.
It was trying hard to snow between 11 am and 1 pm as dense, fine misty rain blew through – but it was just a bit too “warm.†The sun managed to break through intermittently for an hour around 2 pm. Intermittent bursts of chill rain and hail between 3pm and 6 pm but, again, its slightly too warm for the hail to hang about for long.
It will be interesting to see what happens overnight. No doubt the higher parts of the region will get a bit of snow (Rimutakas etc) but it seems so-ooo close for the snow to fall to lower levels briefly.
Brrrrrr.

Sleety showers with the odd snow flake continuing here in the ChCh CBD, the weather seems determined to do the oppositie of what the metservice says today, everytime they changed the forecast today it did an about face!
UPDATE....significant graupel/ hail/ ice now falling, enough to settle and turn the patio white

But i think snow will come when it is least expected as it normally does also, like last year

The cold IS moving north - a high of 10.5C at 1:45 and a frost this morning of -1.4C. Right now its 1.9ºC and dropping quickly at -1.0ºC /hr.
Clear skies and no wind both lead to a hard frost tonight mid NI...
I should start a mid NI Weather Blog...

Wind was sure bitter this morning with a rather nice view towards the snow coverd mountains .
A very light dusting on the port hills too with the Scarborough hills getting the most towards Sumner way, which explains how SW the flow was.
Severe frosts tonight, but I certainly wouldn't call a -1C frost severe as MS indicates.
That would be more a light frost to me, as a severe frost should be -4C or more .
Cheers
Jason.

That caught my eye too Jason.. Karen kept on saying severe frosts?
http://www.metservice.com/default/index ... ytxt#frost
So what will they call it when it really is severe...
1.7°C here and a wandering breeze.

A poster on Trademe forums living in 'rural Taupo' said it snowed last night and there was still some around this afternoon. Dusting on Mt Tarawera also reported.talked to my brother inlaw in taupo
there was snow on the hills above acacia bay first thing (i.e 550m or so above sea level,200m above taupo town)
About 3C now in central Chch, but still quite abit of cloud around, so a big frost might not happen.

Ohh thats good then if there is no frost as I won't have to worry about cold hands while planting .
By the way I have a new website it's just really pretty much a blog page as I would like to call it with weather forecasts, warnings and photo's.
