Not far to the end of the month, and I wonder if it'll turn out to be a significantly cold one like June last year, at least in the South Island. The unseasonable warmth of May is but a distant memory now.

Hmmm. I don't know...the temps haven't been anywhere near as low as those of last year (at least not down here) and there have been fewer cold days too.

Maybe different for elsewhere, but I think this month won't come close to last June.

I can't give you any comparisons to other years as I have just started records, official records that is, from January 2007, this year, from this site .. but ..it will be interesting to see other comparisons 'twixt this year and last year in the South Island.

For this area, I reckon May was definitely a standout, or at least in my memory. (Which is of course infallible!) June wasn't a patch on last year though.

May not turn out nearly as cold as last year, but still looks like being colder than normal in parts of the South Island, esp the south.

Heh! I actually meant that May was warmer!

for us here june has been so far 0.7°C colder than normal (i.e a little bit down on normal)

also less rain so far than normal, but its raining at the moment.....so the total might get closer to normal by months end

What was June like up there last year Brian? It'd be interesting if you had a warm or warmer than usual June while we froze, and this year you had a cooler than normal May while we were relatively warm.

May - auxillary verb

Definitely the latter.

last june was much colder than normal up this way too (as it was for the whole country)
because we are surrounded by water here, not much land, our temperature trend is a good indicator

My bad...I misread it!

The leaves on some trees have stayed on longer this year,normally they come down in the last week of May or 1st week of June,the last of them the last week

Okay, I didn't pay much attention to national weather stats. I may go look them up later.

last june was the something like the coldest in 30 years for NZ, from memory

This June the weather (temps) was on par with last year in Alex.

Hey Andy, have you had a lot of very cold days this year or was last year a little milder in Alex than in, say, Twizel?

Our temps were skewed last year by a string of days in the -10 °C to -14 °C area, the other days being within 5 °C or so of those.

All-in-all, a chilly month for the Mackenzie!

This year has been decidedly mild in comparison.

Alexandra missed all the big snow last year. We had hoar frost but nothing like what you had up your way.

Temps were near normal for winter.

I´d guess this June to be colder than average, but at least 1C milder than June 2006.

Tend to go with you on that one RWood too

I wonder what sort of ranfall totals there have been?Could be quite a variation nationally

Unfortunately the airport router failed due to the cold during the big snow of the 12th-16th-ish, so the low-lows aren't plotted. It got down to -13.4 °C (or something like that) at that time.

Heh...looking at my own graphs I have to wonder if my belief that this June was warmer overall than last June actually holds water!

Okay. I thought maybe you could pick and choose which data to use (eg, only temp, or wind, rainfall, etc). Cheers anyway Brian.
