The weather has just been plain nuts today, looking over parts of chch, at one stage there is a black sky, then it turns to blue, then another part of chch, its blue, then its turn to black, within a matter of half an hour.planez wrote:yes the rainband moving from elsmere lincon is devoloping on radar, metflight
This part of chch, has had blue sky most of the day, then it went black for 40 mintues, now its like a summers day, but the wind is from the south east, and everything is going up.
This whole week has been weird, Its like that scene from the planet of apes, when its totally dark and cold but no rain.

Actually, I think a lot of it is evaporating before it hits the ground...virga, I believe it the term for it...there is only 68% humidity out there at the moment...too dry for snow, or anything else for that matter.Snowlover wrote:me 2 don't knw how there was snow in some parts of chch, isn't it too warm?
I have heard virga is most common in the winter months...TonyT/others wish to comment?

This sattelite shows icy shower clouds offshore at 2:29pm today so if it does turn more southerly expect those to come ashore perhaps.

You probly will smeagol as it's just gone over us delivering a good heavy sleet shower or snail sleety hail. Was some good looking shafts coming down before it hit too.
After that shower temperature back down to 3.0C and should stay that way now not go up.
Cheers
Jason.

Well I think despite all predictions Dunedin has too take first prize.
We have thick snow down to very low levels and it looks spectacular.
There was little wind last night so it fell straight down trees etc are just covered. There has been little or no thaw during the day.
4th fall of snow for the year.
