Well, its bye bye to this cold front and thread.

Temp is 4.3, barometer is 1011 and is raising 2.0 per hour, partly cloudly skies, SE winds.

So the big question is, when is the next cold front suppose to hit, a weeks time?, ten days?

melja wrote:I dont know what sum people are on about saying that this event was a fizzer  as i would say it was spot on for what was forcast if you looked at tonys forcast.
Snow on ground to about 200m.
Some heavy snow in north canterbury.
And snow fluries to sea level.
What more was expected from this event :?
i expected what TonyT said because fencepost is the forcasting group i like

I recall some professional weatherologist or other saying it would either be a big event or a fizzer. It was not a big event, therefore it was a fizzer. ;)

6.20pm staellite - still looks like quite alot of shower cloud in east of South Island, but much thicker cloud over North Island. Ties in with 6pm mslp map showing low to west of North Island, moving eastward while very cold southeasterly pushes onto island. No MetService heavy snow warning for central plateau, but looks like quite abit of the white stuff should fall there, maybe to quite low levels.

I was round at a friends house having a spa at about 6:30pm when it started to snow. A nice small dusting around Darfield. Well, I had my fun in the snow while I could...

we've woken up to a light dusting of snow this morning! Not much, but enough to turn the grass white and excite the kids. Won't be a very big snow man though :( Maybe next time!

It looks like we have lost some SI posters to the skifields today- its very quiet... ;)

Partially cloudy, strong SE, gusting to 40kms but dying, 5.4ºCmin and still only 5.9 now. Baro rising rapidly from 999 to 1010, the winds will ease but there appears to be a Low still coming ... here in the Sth Waikato... how is Hamilton - Foggy?

A cold SE airstream for the next day and at least some clear skies ahead... I'm sick of clouds and rain
