sure is a big clash of airmasses occuring in that region....and also it was where the cold and warm fonts came together....and couple that with the mountain and cook straight and its SE funnel affect, and BAM!
a central taranaki station....shows big pressure jump, temp drop, wind direction change:

Our turn must be next ????? ...or will it?
If the weather dosen't get interesting here, I'm going to chop up my Stevensons Screen and use it as kindling wood to start the fire

Theres a nice satellite shot, at the following location that shows the cloud structure circulating around a centre just to the W of Wanganui:ricky wrote:Anyone with access to frequent rain radar images should look at the low pressure system passing over / SE of Taranaki..
Shows what looks like great tight cyclonic vorticity/rotation, that has been over the trail of areas reporting damage, at what must be a decent height at that distance from the radar, Interesting....

Tokoroa - Lightening and thunder at a distance and squally showers as the last of the front passes over. Should be all clear by midnight. Baro stable at 998. Still 10.8ºC and wind around 20kms/hr.

i notice that the front last night had a big drop in the dew point behind it....so the cb lines are on dew point boundaries
new cb line developing nicely to my NW now
i think nzstorm and spwill might have gone down to taranaki to see the damage first hand, since they have not been on the forum so far today?

I think NZstorm has gone down for some photo's.think nzstorm and spwill might have gone down to taranaki to see the damage first hand
Reports from last nights storms over Taranaki certainly suggest tornado's rather than just wind gusts.
Still a lot of weather action in the Tasman, lightning strikes over the last hr near Ak west coast.
A couple heavy showers here so far this morn.
Nice photo Foggy
