arrrgghhhhh! latest model runs have this anticylone building again to the SW in the coming week. Next thursdays map looks like a carbon copy of two weeks ago. When will it end? No good if you are hoping to get a ski season underway on the canterbury club fields. Starting to feel a lot like 1989.

New Zealand simply doesn't experience enough snowfall to have reliable skifield operations. It'll always be hit-and-miss.

Another gorgeous day in the Waikato!! My last webcampic shows a lovely sunset and deep blue sky;) Cool and clear skies as the wind died down... 10.7ºC and down to 5.5 and falling... :) Methinks Jack is coming to stay tonight!

Drizzly overcast conditions seemed to gradually clear as the day wore, plus to the fact that the anticyclone is weakoning according to today's noon chart. Maybe it should dissapear altogether,as other systems come into play??

It's interesting to say that the MetService says that the anticycone is pushing a ridge when in actual fact the anticyclone is actually maintaining level of high pressure over the area, to cradle the low. It has too, otherwise the low will drop away and decay?...and what willl happen?

The temperature at Tawa actually reached 10 degrees briefly yesterday, the first time we'd been that high in 6 days. We're back to the gloom with chill rain again today. Too much more of this, and we'll be coming down with cabin fever

I wonder if that bright yellow thing still exists.....
Dull damp easterly flavours were well overdue anyway. Feb-June were all sunnier than average for W´gton region anyway, and there hasn´t been a year significantly cloudier than average since 1993.

Pity instead Aberdeen (or one of the eastern Scottish towns, anyway) which had a good 88 hrs sun in December but only 79 hrs in June 2007 - persistent "haar" with the onshore flows.

Yeah, there's a bit of it about the Mackenzie. I'm at Tekapo-B right now where very lightly it's snow off and on and plenty of ice around the place.

Plenty of fog right through Central Otago and the McKenzie county as well, temp a postive 0 degrees in Alex :) Lots of rime / hoar frost around this morning and still is where the fog is lingering near the hills. Looks like staying like this to aleast Mon/Tue next week.

Yes it actually was nice to see the sun again today, and if there is going to be a frost let it be tonight as its the weekend and I don't have to get up early to work in it  .
Although looks like we will loose the sun again tomorrow afternoon onwards and into the rest of the weekend. .
I hope everyone's Friday went ok, or has so far being the 13th 8-[ .
I like the new format to this forum now and now i have sub black too :) .

Looking at available data, it's looking like a very wet Tuesday and Wednesday for the East coast between Blenheim / Kaikoura any thoughts on this :-k

Could be something of interest coming up within the next week or so especailly once this low system spins off into the southern ocean and gets sqeezed by the fat high over Australia, but thats not until the following Sunday, Monday #-o .
Could well be some welcome totals of rain during the week not sure of snow elevations just yet though.
Look at the 9am sattelite this morning it's got a punga head off the coast of Kaikoura maybe it's a sign to encourage us in the game at Jade tonight  .

By the way nice article in todays press about weather and storm chasing in general and how not to get struck by lightning, A17 in the Press today for those who dont get the press. But well done Aaron.

Not a cloud or breeze in the Mackenzie all day. Barely peeked above freezing in many places and there's a coating of rime ice on most of the landscape.
