-1 earlier here in ChCh city with ice on the car, now 2 degrees with a couple of light rain showers through. Looked like it might be a snow flurry for a minute!

Down to -3.5 °C at 07:49 this morning. A beautiful clear day now with a warm NW breeze. If it weren't for the last-gasp chill in the air you'd think it was summer.

Re: Report Your Frost or (How low did you go)
Trademe forum poster reported flurries (not settling) at West Melton this morning. (John might me able to confirm) Latest radar still shows some shower activity in mid Canterbury. Just partly cloudy in central Chch - had a bit of precipitation overnight.-1 earlier here in ChCh city with ice on the car, now 2 degrees with a couple of light rain showers through. Cleared up nicely from the south now with baro reading 1037 and steady,I noticed a small dip about 3 hours ago in the pressure and then it started to rise again .Current temprature is 1.0c and falling slowly, wind is a very light South Easterly, and most of the cloud is over the alps to the west.

It's -4.6 °C in Omarama right now. Unless we get some cloud I'd say we're in for another chilly one. Curse this cool spring air!

Re: Report Your Frost or (How low did you go)
maybe he is refering to getting the degree symbol to show?
Spring does not start until Setember, and some will say not until sep 21st
not sure why you think an intense sub antartic fueled high pressure cell is actualy cool spring air
its still winter GaryCurse this cool spring air!

Re: Report Your Frost or (How low did you go)
Do you still get (literally) freezing days in August, Andy?-5 degrees, thick high cloud now, its going to be a cold day unless we get some wind.
No frost in Chch this morning, thanks to the northeasterly and cloud (even a little drizzle last night about 10 or 11pm)

Heh. To me, when it's hot and sunny, it's summer. When it's freezing and snowy, it's winter. If it's warm and not summer or winter, it's spring or autumn.

Re: Report Your Frost or (How low did you go)
Interesting to note that the average August temp. in Alex is 2.5C higher than July's, with the mean daily max. difference being 3.5C. Both these numbers are the highest for NZ, at least of the ones that I've seen. In northern and western parts of the North Island particularly, not only is August not much warmer than July, in the far north it's slightly cooler than June. In Alex. and Cromwell records there is a big jump in sunshine from July to August - must be far fewer fogs in the latter. Decades ago we noticed that school holiday conditions in August, even at the start, were much pleasanter than July and could often feel springlike in the daytime.Andy wrote: Do you still get (literally) freezing days in August, Andy?

Re: Report Your Frost or (How low did you go)
its a wintry day up this way today
12oC strong cold NE wind (which originates as the cold southerly blast that the SI got the other day) and threatening to rain
spring is a long way off at the moment, but after this system goes through, its back to warmer W to NW winds by the looks
