So what does it mean for the upcoming weather? :-k
Sorry it took so long to answer , well I think that as the pressure builds from the South followed with a strong jet stream, both streams will meet as the low moves closer to the west coast, I'm not entirely sure. :-k.I know that its going to be really cold though :?

Its kind of ironic that Saturdays cold change will bring a rise in temperatures to much of the South Island. =D> Weather looks milder next week which will please people in central Otago in particular.

Yes it needs a good southerly or SW blast to get rid of the "'Clag" down here and in SI central regions of recent days or week.
Unfortunately the surface pressures will not be low enough for a good storm but at least it will change the current weather pattern and the north will be looking forward to higher pressures to give them fine weather this coming week :)
No more effing AEC lows forming and moving across the top of the North Island. =D>

Models have been consistent with showing snow down to 300m. Fingers crossed Hamner will get a snow fall over night! :)

First time I have seen chch under a snow symbol this winter i think but forecasting sleety showers by MS.
Still wouldnt rule out sleety showers overnight either, currently 6.3C with a breezy southerly and overcast so I don't think the temperature is going to rise that much before the change.
I was looking at the isobaric map and noticed a warm front moving south attached to a low off the south island east coast, this would be ideal if it pushed ashore more but perhaps the Chatams may just see some white stuff.
Cheers
Jason.

I wish the Met Service would get over June 2006 already. They have gone from conservatism to the opposite extreme. Nothing but blue sky and fog in the Mackenzie and no reason to think that's going to change.

If you takea look at the models it isnt due to hit ChCh till this evening.

Its a bit stupid to be saying its a fizzer before the event has even happened, and if metservice has snow icons out and its currently sunny, maybe some paitence is needed till the southerly has 'actually' come thru!! Then comment on whether or not metservice were right in there forecast.
