I wish the Met Service would get over June 2006 already. They have gone from conservatism to the opposite extreme. Nothing but blue sky and fog in the Mackenzie and no reason to think that's going to change.
I wonder waht the forecasters punishment was last year, no lattes for a week?? :)

Yes i must say that this constant talk of what the weather is doing right now and that the temps are going up is a little tiring! The event hasnt even got here yet so what its doing now doesnt really matter.
I think it would be good if some people had a look at some off the great info on offer on the web to tell for them selfs what the weather is doing or may do rather than just say ita a fizzer when its not even here yet.

Yes, sunny skies, totally clear in my part of town, is this the end of the bad stuff or the clam before the bad stuff?

If you look at the latest satelite pics you will see that the front is only at about Dunedin, Oamaru way.

Seek and you will find.

Oh... the temp is starting to fall.

This is the anitcyclonic gloom clearing to make way for the cold front and stronger S-SW winds of which could clearly be seen on the sattelites this morning.
It has always been the front coming through this evening so I dont know why people are thinkng of blue sky sunshine and lolipops   .
I will be glad to see some sunshine before this blast hits.
Cheers

gopolks sit back and relax  wait untill it actually gets here as it hasnt yet.
Jasestrm is right its clearence too make way for the front itself, i would expect this too happen before it hits.
Nice too see abit of sun really. I can start too see some dark clouds coming up from the S
ill keep my eye out the window for sure though for any sleet or whatever might fall, esp after the game and we have thrashed those wallabies ;)

Or they were banned from Queenstown this ski season! No sitting around at outdoor cafes, snidely smirking about losers with snow outfits that are "so last season", while swilling $5 wine which they were charged $90 for, their $750 imported from Italy (after being made in a mill in India) sweaters artfully draped over their shoulders, the $900 designer-label sunnies (from an extrusion machine in Pakistan) perched sophisticatedly on their moussed hair, braying about gold chip investments and property deals. How to cope? Oh, the horror!

The rain radar continues to be completely devoid of any action whatsoever, confirming this event is as predicted by most here an absolute fizzer. Temperature continuing to rise under blue skies with a steady SW breeze in central ChCh up to a whopping 8 degrees now

Metvuw looks interesting for next Saturday however, although that is a loooong way off yet.

I just can't see it. As much as I'd like to I just can see it happening. ( but yes there is an element of reverse psychology being attempted here)

@Gopolks - please keep your posts constructive and relevant, or the moderators will start deleting them.

@everyone - I dont think any of us truly believe that by posting comments on here (negative or positive) that you are actually going to change the weather. So lets stop using this forum as a psycho-meteorological experiment, and keep the discussion relevant to what the weather has done, is doing, or might do, not what you want it to do.

Some cloud hove into view a couple of hours ago, passed over the Mackenzie, then disappeared north. Nothing else happened. It's partly cloudy now.

It looks to be panning out exactly as we have been forecasting it for the last 3-4 days. :)

See the usual sources, ATS, CRT, or Fencepost, if you havent already.

Starting raining out near Akaroa in the last 20 minutes - this must be the front. Sun came out at times this afternoon after drizzle mostly cleared, but the southerly freshened during the day.

Yes rain here now interesting how in the last 2 hours the radar has had precipitation developing just south of chch and now much more increased on the 6pm radar.
Colder stuff is hitting the far south at the moment.

Coming onto rain here now, but only light scattered stuff.

I like this extract from BlueSkies Weather for tomorrow on Fencepost:
"Showers on Sunday morning with light snow flurries to 500m, but a clearance from evening with sunny periods developing" :? [-( :)  ;)
