Looking interesting early next week with GFS and ECMWF progging a strong pulse of cold air to the west of Fiordland around a long wave trough.
Ah thats nothing. ChCh's mediteranean winter weather surpassed that 4 or 5 days in a row last week 8) 8) 8)

and did it without precipitation enhancments

Yes higher afternoon temps down there last week Razor but a big difference between the South and the North of NZ is the temperature the day starts on and the dewpoint temp ( humidity).

Yes, yet another interesting system looks to be on the way. A cold unstable system with squally thunderstorms in the west.

I have just looked at the cloud burst video above. Looked like a real deluge, the sort of thing you see in USA where visibility is reduced to fog like conditions the rain is so heavy. :)

Fog and low cloud this morning with a quick glimse of sunshine early afternoon then cloudy again.
Canterbury Agircultural park's pond or lake was and has been quite full, and there are still islands of natives which are in deep water although the Cabbage and Flax don't mind wet feet.
Quite a few footbridges were under water too and can see the flood marks up to waist height in some areas.
Yes another deep low by the weekend MSLP has it down to 976HP looks more possibly the case for some strong winds perhaps.
Cheers
Jason.

MetService forecast for Chch today says rain at times, but nothing so far (just overcast), and radar shows only some light showers further north near Kaikoura and maybe clipping outer Banks Peninsula.

I really don't know what drugs they are on at Metservice. The ChCh forecasts as you say is rain at times, while the Short NZ forecast says only showers. In reality I'd bet there will be little rain, if any, here today.

Time will tell! :)

I'm heading for Dunedin this weekend and it looks like it could be into the teeth of another reasonably serious rain event. The mountain bike is packed regardless.

Did get brief spitting rain in central Chch about 11am, but sun is now trying to break through.

Yeah, quite foggy here too this morning but it burned off nicely and now the weather is spectacular. (Spectacular - Fine, not Spectacular - Action Weather.)

I heard on the radio that Stewart island has been evacuated due to bad weather not sure what bad weather as it hasnt been on the news as of yet, maybe no reporters have got down there yet :-k .
Another overcast day with a few spots of rain around midday, I also noticed that the port hills are looking lush green in some areas.
I wouldn't say there is nothing coming up in the weather certainly some interesting lows which could fire anything closer to the time 8-[ .
Cheers

Nothing that drastic, but TV1 News showed there were quite afew slips on the inhabited part of Stewart Island (a tiny fraction of the whole island), and some homes were cut off from road access.

great looking jet stream right across the mid tasman this afternoon
when you see that, often that means windy weather on the way (as it helps depressions in the tasman deepen )
