July summary

Unread post by Skywatcher »

From my station in Templeton:

Average temp: 5.7 °C

Max temperature: 18.2 °C (25th, 26th, 27th)
Average max: 9.6 °C

Min temperature: -6.4 °C (8th)
Average min: 1.6 °C

Rainfall: 73.4 mm (on 14 days)
Max rain: 23.4 mm (30th)

A month of "extreme" temperatures and on average it was 0.1 °C warmer than June. The coldest temperature I've ever recorded and the coldest day on the 8th with an average of -1.6 °C (previous record was 0.3 °C on 18th June 2007). A new record for July max temperature reached on three days. Also 18 consecutive days where the high didn't reach double figures.

From my station in Alexandra

Average temp: 2.2 °C

Max temperature: 17.7 °C(26th)
Average max: 6.0 °C

Min temperature: -8.3 °C (8th)
Average min: -1.5 °C

Rainfall: 35.5 mm (on 9 days)
Max rain: 10 mm (4th, 30th)

A warm start too July then cold and frosty with 10 consecutive days of fog and hoar frost with temps around 0 or below all day. Then very warm towards the end of the month. If thats winter we have had it in Central Otago, bring on spring.

Fairly wet but then again its Auckland in mid winter ;)
But however it was a fairly good month apart from the period into the 3rd and 4th week with the gloomy anticyclonic gloom but overall without the SW that we normally get and lots of E especially the 1st 3 weeks =D>

NIWA summary:

http://niwavessels.co.nz/ncc/cs/0707sum.pdf" target="_blank

It should be noted that the combined June-July temperature departure for NZ is -0.2C (-0.6C for June, +0.2C for July). NIWA's temp. prediction for the winter period will be OK unless August is very cold (unlikely, I think).

I meant departure from mean, not the combined anomaly - should have made that clearer. :)
