Re: Rain and westerly change, 4 - 6 Aug
Interesting about the lightning thingy in Wellington.
Its been a wee bit cold today here, had the S Breeze come through most of today and we might get a few showers tonight but I think they may have gone out to sea already.
btw is it just me or is CRT not forcasting at the moment?

Yes CRT seems to be not updated at the moment but try fencepost, i also notice MSLP isnt working either.
A nice day after some breif early morning light rain spillover from the west, followed by some nice forms of CU .
Day warmed up very nicly I would say around 14-15C quite mild for a cool southerly.
Cheers
Jason.

Christchurch Airport recorded 9C. 850mb temp 0C. You would need the NW effect to get those temps Jason.Day warmed up very nicly I would say around 14-15C quite mild for a cool southerly.

A disappionting day for convection over Auckland today. Poor instability led to just a few junky cb's. Air is quite dry tonight with dewpoint now 8C. Some good speed wind shear there though.
A nice looking cold pool out to the west of the South Island tonight.

Only got to 9.5C here. 14 - 15C would be rather unlikely.Jasestrm wrote:Day warmed up very nicly I would say around 14-15C quite mild for a cool southerly.

...about the same here. It was nice in the sun in a sheltered area but cool out in the middle of the paddock. Only 9.5ºC here.

Yes it was lovely on our front verandah early this afternoon in the sun
....but when mucking out a short while later it was much cooler in the sun although it was warm on my back as I bent over shovelling up the horseshit

Re: Rain and westerly change, 4 - 6 Aug
Gonna be another good day! cool air coming over at the right time of day... -29C @ 500mb , lifted index -2C.. and upper level winds dying down a bit, W just 30 knots @ 500mb and 15 knots at the surface. Could bode well for potential afternoon heating then with the relatively light winds.

Re: Rain and westerly change, 4 - 7 Aug
These Cb's coming in from the NW are all pretty fresh and unorganised coupled with strong shear along the tops... might have to wait for the more matured Cb's currently hitting Taranaki.
There's also quite a bit of stratus about this morning, but hopefully that'll burn off by lunch time. 9C/dewpoint 8C here now with not much wind.
