Dry here, plenty of sunshine but there has been some low top Cb South Ak way, over your house Michael.

As far as I am aware and I might be wrong,I think its somthing like a rain band about 10 km wide or a period of about 20 mins - 30 mins. Not sure though.

Re: How isolated is isolated
I like the term 'Isolated' when being used to forecast rain fro a thunderstorm or convergence type rain. Other than that, dont think it realy should be used,

Re: How isolated is isolated
not sure about metservice criteria, but generally it just means showers affecting a small area at a time, ie not widespread

Re: How isolated is isolated
From MetService's terminology page, http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/ind ... inologytxt
I think it's a good term - and probably suited that day for the forecast for Auckland Metro.Isolated (also one or two, the odd, patchy) - Rain or showers occur over very little of an area.
Scattered (also here and there, passing, a few) - A term for rain or showers that occur in a number of places but not everywhere over a district or region.
Occasional (also now and then, outbreaks of) - Rain or showers occur now and then at most places. Occasional rain, or occasional showers, implies that precipitation occurs for less than half the time.

Re: How isolated is isolated
It's when the showers have said something to offend the other weather. We should refer to them as shunwers, or ostrashowers maybe.

It's when there's no current flow through them.
And potential showers have a difference between them. The rarely experienced potentioshower varys its current.

Re: How isolated is isolated
Isolated= confined to one area for example there cold be a shower 5 mins up the road in Woodend from here, and yet it's completly sunny here.
Great example of significant isolation would be in the tropics, where you can be driving up the road in sunshine and then hit a very short sharp downpour of rain in a 2-3 minute peroid then back to sunshine again.
I have always wonderd if the term Rogue showers means the same as isolated?.
Cheers
Jason.
