Re: Low to cross North Island Monday
virus scanners are big cpu and HD users
if you have a router and you follow safe email practices then i think virus scanners are not needed (my personal opinion))
yes, strikes off Northland have been occuring
rain radar does show shower lines to the west of the Waipoa forest area
amazing you are getting heavy rain in the sth waikato...only misty drizzle here!
but the sat image shows the front has re fired as it moved south

Looks like a heavy shower at Mangawhai Heads, 20mm since 6pm
Hopefully we'll get some heavy falls tonight as mentioned on TV3 weather
Update:
see the 8pm rain radar, likes like intensifying band of heavy showers moving towards Auckland, same heavy shower as mentioned above.
More lightning strikes showing up on the storm tracker as the rain moves south!

Re: Low to cross North Island Monday
Yes, I am expecting some very heavy showers tonight as we experience a clash between the very warm nor-east air mass above us and the cooler south-west change on its way

Re: Low to cross North Island Monday
Although the lightning activity off the west coast of Northland had died down the 9pm rain radar shows an area of heavy rain to move onto Auckland, looks more like east Auckland rather than the west

Nice to see convectively-induced showers again. Yes spwill, those dewpoints are great! 15C all the way from Cape Reinga to Auckland! CAPE values are even rising up above 800j/Kg at the centre of the trough north of NZ.
12mm here today.

Re: Low to cross North Island Monday
The rain radar loop shows it to be moving quite slowly - maybe some moderate totals over parts of Auckland overnight (10mm+)?
Rain heavier here now.
What is supposed to happen with the disturbance west of Northland out in the Tasman?

Re: Low to cross North Island Monday
Similar here - winds about 12km/hr, 12ºC, 18mm overnight to about 8:30am, full overcast, mild - 90% rH.
The lunar eclipse is not looking too good for tonight... while the winds stay in this direction and the Low is slow moving - well perhaps the southerlies will come and clear the skies as the High approaches... May be on yet... :dontknow: But then maybe a pessimist exists - the high humidity we have at the moment and the look of clouds in the Tasman on the Sat pics, not likely at the moment...

Rain shower
Wind from the WSW (250 degrees) at 40 MPH (35 KT) gusting to 58 MPH (50 KT)

I think August for Auckland will be about average though the weather over the past 10 days has been cool and very cloudy. Street cherry blossom out here now.
Looks to be a Weather pattern change for next week.
Already 152 hrs of sun to yesterday
Is that about a third more sunshine than normal for Wellington.

Once the southwest winds ease off and change direction next week hopefully will start seeing some spring like temps
