Razor, what is Raratonga like ?, I'm heading up there tomorrow night.
Its glorious, you won't want to leave. Cool wind at times but still like an NZ summer. A little rain here and there, actually the weathers been quite different every day for the past two weeks. The SW Pacific Convergence Zone has been quite mobile

Atiu was much warmer, about 30 degrees

At what temperature is it cold enough to start sleeting?
Once when it was 3.8C it rained here, but it was only very cold rain.

Approx between 1C and 4C for sleet but would need heavy precipitation for sleet at 4C and yes usually snow by 1C to 2C.

Thanks for that report on Raratonga Razor, I'm looking forward to seeing some of the Islands.

Rain starting to become more persistant here now..

Cloud tops associated with those South Island showers starting to lower now.. so perhaps only freezing drizzle left for the far south.

Snow in Oxford and Culverden today. Sleet off and on for about an hour here in Amberley around midday, with temps around +3 to +3.5. Light snow on the hills around melted with rain showers in the early afternoon. Another sleet shower just now, but only brief, temp +3.5.

Heavy rain mixed with large sleet here and temperature dropped to 2C.
Still raining as I type quite a big shower considering they really should be quickly belting through.
Come on snow 8-[ .
Cheers
Jason.

Same situation here, waiuku station in south Auckland says it has been raining for 3hrs with 10mm last hour and 17mm. We haven't had a drop! It seems the rain band has stalled, even though the rain radar shows it approaching us?

The rain radar shows the band still approaching you...isolated stuff annoys me.

There seems to be a lot of scrappy stuff all over the place in the SI.

EDIT: No, icy shower just passing through here now. :)

You guys havent heard of the inverse law of weather posting? Crikey, thats why you are racking up the message counts in double quick time. You see, Huey knows who posts to all the weather fora around the world - he has armies of secret weather elves who spend all day on-line, trolling the internet on the lookout for weather geeks. And, sad as it may seem, the people who post the most miss out on the fun weather. The more you post, the smaller the chance of getting the weather you want. Kinda like a meteorological anti-christmas. If you want it to snow, its best to stay very, very quiet... :-$

We've got to be quiet. Us here in Chch.

From Dictionary.com:

snow pellet
n. A small white ice particle that falls as precipitation and breaks apart easily when it lands on a surface. Often used in the plural. Also called graupel, soft hail.

Graupel is snow/hail really it falls like hail but has a snow texture, we have had some tonight, And i do have to agree with Tony, often when we have had a potential for a extreme weather event the threads get treated like chat rooms, just wait!

I wish you could hear the snow properly, as I can't tell while I'm doing all this project stuff. And the temp still isn't moving. :x

It was a lovely day here sitting in front of the fire. I tuned into "Days of Our Lifes" on TV One. Did you know that Cyril wants a divorce?

Some decent rain overnight, 15mm. :)

So did any of you get any snow? Doesn't look like it was cold enough.
