Lovely spring day here in Rolleston fast approaching the 20's. Wind looks like it may well pick up for the afternoon.

I see there have been wind warnings issued by metservice for Wellington, Malborough, Canterbury high country, Canterbury Plains and Christchurch. In these areas winds could gust to 120kmh tomorrow.
Our run of sunny weather here in the north will be ending soon
Showers/rain and strong winds from the westerly quarter expected from later tomorrow.

Yes a mild 20C here by mid afternoon before the band of high cloud came over, still nice to be able to break out the jandals and shorts .
Winds have been fresh from the N-NW nothing strong yet but that could well pick up overnight as the first front hits the west coast.
Certainly an active period coming up of strong NW-SW winds and a few shots at thunderstorms, but where are all our Canterbury storm chasers sitting in the quiet chair perhaps .

Yes Jason, still looking on track for a mini cold outbreak across the country next Tuesday or there abouts with thunder/hail in many regions. Maybe some snow on the hills!

A bit of prefrontal moisture tomorrow may allow some instability to reach the north with that front.

Front this morning has remained active... a look at tomorrow could suggest there's a bit of severe weather on the way with the northwesterlies.

Looks to be possible thunderstorm activity in the west and north of the NI island this afternoon and also tomorrow afternoon and evening with a moderate risk forecast

Rain band now showing on the Auckland radar as well, out in the Tasman at the moment, and showery westerlies and bands of rain looks to continue through until at least Friday at this stage.

Strong gusty Northerly overnight not quite gale force but would have been in other inland areas i would imagine.
After the AB's game I looked at the rainfall rates across the south island and Milford sound was on 45mm/hr in a 3hr period .
No rain here but could well be some overnight as the next front crosses by early morning with more gales and thunderstorms along the alps.
Tuesday is looking very active with perhaps a first flick delivering a band of heavy thundery showers then a second even colder one which could support some damaging wind gusts in the vincity of the thunderstorms perhaps.
Should have a better idea by tomorrow.

Typical! The rain band is approaching Auckland and the rain radar has gone down - again!
Hopefully be hearing some thunder today or tommorow

Just had a brief (10min) thunderstorm pass through Palmerston North. Quite frequent lightning (every 20 - 30 seconds), along with a quick 3mm of rain. Can still hear thunder to the East, in the distance.

I'm not sure whether we'll see thunderstorms in Auckland tomorrow afternoon but the front due early Tuesday morning should be a thunderous one.

That storm has moved east across the Ranges into Wiararapa.

Not often you will see a cb do that, jump across the ranges and still be active on the east coast. Obviously some convergence going on there to sustain the convection.

Yet again after a fairly sedate September (not too much unsettled SW and not a great heap of rain) the month of October may mark a wetter month and ruin what were nice starts to spring.

The last 2years Septembers rain: 104mm, 57mm
And last two Octobers: 220mm, 150mm
September total of this year is not too high with 84mm, and now the outlook seems to be showery for the next several days.

Quite enjoyable were the sunny periods we had this month
Wonder if October will be a wet month up here again?

Average Oct temp for Auckland = max 18.2, min 11.3
Temps seldom deviate much from the average here rain or shine.

I can believe the average maximum temperature you've quoted, but how the average minimum be 11.3C for October? I'd expect that in November.
Maybe it's because we have colder nights here than nearer to the city where the official temps are recorded? On a clear night I could almost guarantee that the forecast minimum for Akl is at least 2 degrees too high for where I live.
