Been rather dry on this part of town, showers more going inland i reakon
Actually persistent rain/shower activity to the north today - on radar, the band's lingering in a line over North Canterbury, including the Amberley/Waipara area.

My Convective forecast
Thunderstorms unlikely over NZ today but there is a 10% chance of thunder with that SW change in Canterbury this afternoon. Given that surface parameters are likley to be unfavourable (low moisture/no sea breeze) it looks likely to be just a squally shower with the change. Some heavy squally showers for the west and north of the country as well easing off this evening. :)

How do you know that there won't be any thunder when MS has forecast a high risk for this afternoon?

Strange how still there's been next to no rain here, and I thought it was supposed to be windy last night but somehow it got down to 7 degrees.

I edited to 'unlikely rather than No'
Strange how still there's been next to no rain here

We have had some quite heavy showers here in Grey Lynn.

This weather looks more like June than October. I see Christchurch Airport have 0C this morning.

Must be in error then. ChCh city currently 11 degrees, low last night was 7. No way was it anywhere near 0 at the airport

There is absolutely no way that you could convince me that is accurate. Given it was still reporting 0 degrees at 10am I think you'll find its a glitch ](*,)

I don't see what's so hard to believe.. and where do you get that it's 0C at 10am? NZCH has it at 11C.

Here are the METAR observations, see for yourself! :) Shows that it was frosty there from 3am and quickly warming up by 8am.

Scattered heavy showers with small hail and a few lightning strikes moved over Waikato, Auckland and Northland within a couple of hours either side of midnight last night.

Just saying its highly unusual to be so much warmer only 10km away here in ChCh CBD- as per the Council wensite it only went down to 6.5 here. There was no sign of it in the CBD or Hagley as mentioed...I see 5 mins after I posted the airport reading went from 0 degrees to 11 so I guess the nor west arrived there too

Some rather impressive CU towering from the North right around to the south now 8) .
Wind has been NE all day and still is now, just shows what can happen without ridging influence of a NW flow.
Perhaps a moderate chance this evening :-k .

A few 'fists' going up right above at the moment but nothing really to get excited about :|
Yes, there was a frost here this morning as I slipped over on the decking. #-o
Down to 0.1ºC in the screen and minus 2.8 on the grass.

Yes I manage that most Winters - can get quite dangerous if it is slippery frost (frozen dew)

Was looking quite good before will post a few pics later.
But just lacked something as it just capped and got rugged at a certain height.
Still great to see at this time of the year, looks like a few showers coming up the coast though.
Hopefully a break in the ridging will allow a NE to undercut before the change on Wednesday #-o .
Cheers
Jason.
