Auckland airport dropped to 2C on just one night this past winter (22nd July). Mean minimum for the whole of winter was a very mild 9.2C at the airport.

No-one on this forum from Gisborne? Severe thunderstorm watch for the city and northwards this evening - thunderstorm already affecting it according to Trademe poster.

Wow there has been some development, the radar shows a rain band developed south of Auckland and moving north by the looks of it.

Didn't turn out to bad in chch today, with sum showers and some light hail this morning but nothing to major at all really.
What chch lowest reading temperature this winter? must have been around -6 or -7? i do remember peoples pipes bursting around the city.
2C in Auckland tomorrow night? i doubt it david, not up there especially at this time of year, supposed to go down to 0C here tonight and even thats getting cold for down here at this time of year

Just to add that a tornado was reported near Reporoa this afternoon, according to TV1 Weather.
Could easily be a frost in Chch tonight.

What happened to our rain band last night? (I was off computer later part of evening)
Did it disintegrate up? because the 9pm radar looked promising but then there was only patchy light rain of 2mm
Down to 5.3C here this morning, should be colder tonight if its clear and completely calm.

The main limiting factor will be cloud cover, it is very rare in Auckland to maintain a clean perfectly clear sky for 12hours.

Our dewpoint temps are also a big factor, dewpoints down to 6C overnight. Will probably lower a little this morn but will rise when the flow goes SW overnight tonight.

Typical winter's anti-cyclonic day here. 10C
Certainly looking good for the last frosts of the year. (?)
105.8mm so far here for October which is great after the September deficits.

Re: Active Front 17th Oct
Spoke to family up in Gisborne this morning. It was a spectacular thunderplump, with flash flooding and several near misses with lightning strikes - an incoming aircraft struck, a car near the airport, and a woman collecting the newspaper from her front gate at Makaraka was near a tree that got blatted - and I thought reading newspapers was good for you!tich wrote:No-one on this forum from Gisborne? The thunderstorm was spectacular (best in several years) and the thunder made the houses rattle. The associated downpour seems to have caused a few problems.
