Should be good weather down here this WE for people with outdoor activities. Due to the intensiness of the current anticyclone in the Tasman Sea , no rodents should hinder the weather.
Next week might be a bit different, I hope :)

Really is one of those days that feels like its winter, the chill in the air this morning, comfortable in the sun this afternoon and then an evening wind chill (12C outside with SW breeze). Hopefully tomorrow's westerlies will warm the atmosphere up a bit.

In Winter no, but at this time of the year most of the evenings have been around 15C, and this evening 12C with the wind made it feel probably about 6-7C. 12C is only a chill if there is wind to make it feel colder (most often the case in Auckland).
Sometimes it has been 6C here with strong winds and according to this:http://www.eol.ucar.edu/homes/rilling/wc_table.html the wind chill can be as low as -10C

Yes Michael, a nice big temperature inversion/southwesterlies/stratocumulus stuck over us for the long weekend and into next week by the looks. The Octobers of this decade in NZ have been largely cooler than the long term normal. This october could be a repeat of that trend the way its going. Looks to be some nice polar rodents crossing southern NZ over the next few days. Some very cold unstable air in the far south today by the looks.

Nice wee CB shower crossing towards the SE at the moment over BP, bit of shafting too so possible hail.
Typical Scenario in a westery flow, must be something to do with the sheltering of BP allowing some heating or an undercutting NE sea breeze on the E-SE side of BP.
I see abit of purple on the rain radar too from this shower, better go get a pic of it before it heads into Pegasus.
Cheers
Jason.

I was out and about with the family and happened to have my camera (we went to the park to get shots of the kids playing, etc...)
I will post the photos in the Photographs area...I dare say there was some Mammatus associated with it :D

Not a bad day in the city. Partly cloudy and mild in the morning, with fresh NW and more cloud to the north. Clouded over for a couple of hours in the afternoon with strong NW gusts, then a rapid clearance with very light WSW. Picturesque towards evening with blue skies but biggish buildups over the Tararuas. Probably at least 8 hours of sunshine overall.

There's no gales - its a mostly clear sky right now with a typical spring westerly, gusting 55kmh but certainly not gale.

It's been strengthening particularly in the last hour, with a couple gusts up to 75kmh coming through. Eastern Beach station has 82kmh.

I just got back from a windy experience at Mt Wellington where I took my wind meter. I found a good spot where the average speed was about 65km/h (35knots) and recorded a maximum gust of 92.6kmh (50kts).
Quite a gale but not enough to push me over. One day I plan to get a better wind meter (the current one only goes up to 108kmh) and hopefully record a wind speed which is too strong for me to stay standing 8-[ (my aim is 120kmh - start of hurricane force)

Went a little bit unstable again today with some low topped CU, and a few light showers to boot under a NE breeze.
Great to see these types of scenario's, hopefully means of good signs for storm season ahead.
Cheers
