Well from my experience bare rooted or not, Summer planting is almost always fatal, even with constant watering. Its the dry wind that does it.
Late Autumn, Winter and early Spring are the best times to plant because of frequent rains.

Well although other areas of the North Island had a nice day the cloud stuck here, but looks to become clear soon as the Raglan webcam shows clear sky, and that isn't too far away from here.

Looks like slight frosts tomorrow morning too, south of the Bombay's.

Still cloud around in Auckland, and it wasn't even a cold night like was forecast, with the easterly wind sticking around through to now. Only got down to 10C here so I would be surprised if there's any frost in the Waikato this morning.

There must be some strong ground heating now at this time of year with my soil thermometer registering 23.3C now, a bit high but there has been much sunshine today.

Re: Stable weather to end October
There was a beautiful sunset looking west towards the central Auckland area from the Bucklands Beach peninsula this evening, orange and yellow with tints of pink underneath a cloud bank, the sun was just above the horizon centred on the distant one tree hill. What made it so picturesque was the orange sparkle and glow across the shimmering water, and the yachts capturing the evening light. I did think of taking my camera for a picture but thought that sunsets are usually 5 minute things, this one lasted over 20mins, and I got no picture sadly

Re: Stable weather to end October
Was thinking there could be the chance for a few isolated showers to pop up inland tomorrow, we'll see. Depends on how much cloud is hanging about re heating.
Cheers

Re: Stable weather to end October
Another warm day today infact warmer than yesterday for sure, it was 23C at 9am .
Up to atleast 27-28C today, some real heat in the sun close to a schorcher.
What is the hottest October record for Canterbury?, must have fallen rather close to it today.
Few spots of rain about mid afternoon too with that humid smell in the air, after that a band of high cloud formed and the temperature dropped to 21C and still is now.
Feeling the summer blues early, is this a sign of what summer has to offer us .
Cheers
Jason.

Re: Stable weather to end October
It was possibly because it was a lighter N-NW rather than NW, which made it feel hotter.
I think Tony explained that in a discussion last year on a simular day we had, still around 25-26C though.
Cheers
