Re: Cold weather to start off November
Yesterdays mostly fine weather forecast for Ak today always looked a bit dubious when you looked at the satellite loop yesterday. It was very hard to see the Tasman cloud sheet clearing way from the NI today I thought.
Current Ak weather- rain 12C ( average min is 13C)
Michael you are allowed to winge about Auckland weather today

Overcast all day here putting a strong lid on any heating, only max of 13.1C so far. More cloudy weather on the way tomorrow but with variable winds.

Must be a record cold day for November for east Auckland today, my thermometer has recorded a high of 11.9C with light rain/moderate rain, currently spitting with 11.5C. 13mm so far today which I did not expect

If it ever would snow in Auckland, though not today but similar weather say in July this would have the possibility of light snow

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Spectacular sunset visible from Bucklands Beach this evening, yellow and turquoise patches of sky becoming very deep oranges and pink for a time. Fantastic viewing with the glow on the shimmering sea
I suspect it would be a prime spot for observing thunderstorms moving in from the west too.

Re: Cold weather to start off November
I downloaded stats for daily maximum temperatures at Owairaka since 1951 up to today, and sorted the November ones into a column, and calculated the lowest daily maximum in the records is 13.4C. For 6 Nov this year it has 17.7C but I think by 6 Nov it means 9am 5th to 9am 6th. So as long as Owairaka recorded a high of <13.4C for today it will be a November record for this site, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what the max. for today was.

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Owairaka recorded a max. of 13.0C for yesterday, 0.4C lower than the previous record of 13.4C on 3rd November 1968, now the coldest November day in 56 years of records. So as long as Owairaka recorded a high of <13.4C for today it will be a November record for this site, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what the max. for today was

Been becoming fine today here and is very pleasant outside with scattered Cu about the area and warmest in the land on 19C.
Looks like a gusty change is due tomorrow but with the blue skies.

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Hey everybody Does anyone care to make a guess at what the weather will be doing on the 17th? I'm having a party out on the new patio and want to have an idea to whether I might need a shade sail or something, though its obviously not critical(because its impossible to tell what the weather will definitely be doing) because I'll probably get one just in case.
cheers

Gee - not everyday do you hear Auckland breaking a record for coldness.David wrote:Owairaka recorded a max. of 13.0C for yesterday, 0.4C lower than the previous record of 13.4C on 3rd November 1968, now the coldest November day in 56 years of records. So as long as Owairaka recorded a high of <13.4C for today it will be a November record for this site, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what the max. for today was

Re: Cold weather to start off November
Really MS struggle to forecast accurately 3 days ahead, so you'll have to wait a week to get a good idea of how it will turn out, and then by that time if the weather is meant to be horrific it will be too late to postpone your eventCameo1 wrote:Does anyone care to make a guess at what the weather will be doing on the 17th?
Metvuw charts show an anticyclone in the next few days, followed by another anticyclone lasting as long as when the forecast ends (15Nov), usually they're better at predicting anticyclones than lows. Looks like we are going to have an anticyclone dominated November this year.

Love those anticyclones (especially if they're favourably oriented for here!)

Re: Cold weather to start off November
See they(metservice) has downgraded it to SW now and can plainly be seen by reading the synoptic chart wheres the NE tommorrrow,AKLD forecast saying winds tending NE and seem to be issuing correct forecasts only on the day now.
