High Pressure to dominate mid November

Looks like most of NZ is in for an extended spell of fine weather after a weak trough clears eastern coasts by Friday.

I guess we should enjoy the sunshine while it is on offer as a La Nina is suggestive of a cloudy wet Jan to Mar for northern and eastern parts of NZ.

Only a few spits in Chch earlier this afternnon, then it looked like clearing for a while. But now there's a thick drizzly rain. Hope it goes this morning.

Its Friday now and no way it will be clearing today and see they now downgrading the fine forecast at least up here.

Overcaste, 14C with a mod westerly. Should see sunny spells developing late morn.
Looking good as far as the eye can see Michael.

Its here in hamilton thats for sure. The its odd because there is virtually nothing on the rain radar yet its drizzle here and every 10 mins or so it becomes heavy rain for a minute or 2.

But it does look rather dark to the southwest (head of Lyttleton harbour); there's a few light showers here and there offshore and about BP on noon radar.

Yes, good amount of rain showers about today.. hardly at all being detected by the rain radar as it's probably under the beam.
18C/ dewpoint 16C so very moist. :)

Lots of cloud around with this high.. but looks like it should clear from Monday and at the same time getting very warm too. (~24-25C daytime maxima) 8)

A wee shower I would say around Prebbleton area from some weak CU this afternoon along with a few spits at the show.
Bob Mc Davitt seems to think mid 20's for the NI next week, so Foggy you could be right on the nail there ;) .
High dominant features are not always that bad for this time of the year, as they can bring those inland heat convective showers of which I am sure we will see in the next few days.
Cheers
Jason.

Yes, the upper air in this next anticyclone will be relatively warm so warm afternoon temperatures away from coasts exposed to onshore winds. But the warm upper air means no afternoon thundery buildups. :-k

The air over the upper NI today was unstable to 3500m in a weak surface trough, hence the localised heavy showers.

just to clarify, yes, afternoon low topped t/cu buildups/isolated showers but the upper air will be too warm for a repeat of the cbs/ thunderstorms like we observed in the last anticyclone.

Yes we had two or three hours of mostly steady light to moderate rain down in Lincoln, from a bit after noon, wasn't expecting any rain...nothing interesting though and nothing interesting coming up either - had enough boring weather. :(

I cant see any decent rain falling in the next 10 days. The cyclone to the north of us is now looking to almost completely miss NZ, and after this slow anticyclone several models predict another one to take its place with nothing in the way of rain in between :( Hopefully things change otherwise a small drought may be upon us. Only 41mm rain this month, 12mm in the last 11 days. We need some sunny weather though, hopefully it wont be too hot - metservice have 20-21C forecast over the next few days.

haha hot!?? lol, its never hot in NZ, even on the hottest day, nah dont worry about a drought it will rain again soon. What the heck is with this annoying wind, I hope it dissipates before this evening, it surely cant be a seabreeze can it because its been at it all day????

Its a SW at Raglan and Dargaville on the west coasts, so it must be a seabreeze. It did arrive early though at 8am it was here, the temperature was already 14C then after a low of 7. Its not been that bad, I'd say max gusts around 30-35km/h.

Not to bad a day down here in Christchurch, has been that coolish NE blowing on through but otherwise has been warm, id say around 17 or 18C 8)

Will see the thermometers hit 30C this week in inland parts of the country, particularly sheltered valleys in the SI.

There is a hint in the modelling that the air will turn unstable over the North Island later in the week due to rising humidity.
Stay tuned.
