Re: High Pressure to dominate mid November
Thunderstorm has developed within the last hour right on around Kuratau, Lake Taupo.
Nice view of it here, but very cold looking in nature.
Edit: Some fresh towers pulling up through that Cb so not bad at all!

Re: High Pressure to dominate mid November
Just been up on a hill looking south and there is the massive anvil cloud that take up a huge perportion of the sky with new Cu's blowing everywhere within in it, which i suspect is the one down by toupo and then there is a new Cb developing what looks to be more out the Rotorua ways.
So its a good looking southern sky from where i was looking.

There's a lightning active storm in the Bay of Plenty currently. The stuff further west in southern Waikato looks to have weakened out.

Wow Bay of Plenty getting some action, 13mm in the last hour at Tauranga, 16mm in an intense burst at Tokoroa, now that it's holidays for 9 weeks, where's our action Garden all drying up again after 1.8mm in the last 6 days, I wonder if the climate outlook on TV1 weather tonight is wrong, but I wouldn't mind seeing some summer heavy rains.
Anyway, where's this action stuff going?

Ha Ha - got front row seats as each cell passes over my house - mainly ctc with the odd ctg but virtually all forked not sheet, no hail yet though....
while I remember - the correlated stormvue is the most accurate...

only 14mm in last hour...

I see one rain gauge at Tauranga recording 28mm in under an hour. Reports of hail too.
I guess BOP had the sunnier warmer weather today which provided the convective energy as well as a converging onshore wind.

Did consider a drive south today, perhaps I should have gone.
GFS suggests thundery weather for the north later next week if that can be believed.

Storm is finally letting up here. Lots of Cells, mainly CC not many CG. Small (5mm diameter) hail at times. Good stuff. Next time lets hope I know in advance and can get out and enjoy it. This one lasted about 3 hours and caused lots of surface flooding.

Re: High Pressure to dominate mid November
i heard on the radio this morning that the Mt and Tauranga got hit by a good one with large amounts of hail and a street being flooded.
We could also see all the lightning in the distant from that storm which was neat to see at night.

Clouds building a few kms to the west with a dark bottom already. But MS dont have any thunderstorm potential anywhere today. May not be a thunderstorm but its a convective shower which is nice.. keep things cool and wet.
