High Pressure to start December

Thought a new thread was in order considering tomorrow is officially the first day of summer.
Weather looks particularly stable for the next few days. Hopefully no anticyclonic gloom (stratocu) within this next high.

Forecasting wise all these highs have been brilliant!! Still, you get your cloud here and there. Front moving in like late yesterday here, will be another tomorrow but no biggies. Is nice......:D

Even though the weather hasn't been all that interesting, storm wize, I haven't mind the warm weather out here at West Melton, mind you it's getting a bit dry. The recent rains haven't done much really.

Certainly the first week of December is looking dry and sunny for much of the country with temps gradually getting warmer.

Metvuw forecasts have rain from 5th to 8th December, and proper rain not just drizzly rubbish.

I have never followed Metvuw. I assume this is the forecasting done by Vic. University.

Really? I find it the best and dad has found it brilliant for dairy farming and says it is accurate as.

With a number of models to look at I have never bothered with Metvuw. The GFS has been suggesting NE winds/rain later in the week also. The rain wouldn't be unwelcome if it eventuates. :)

Smallish Cb has developed near Thames according to latest rain radar.

Can see its top from here. Looks nice against the evening sun.

huh that's strange steady rain here now and rain radar shows something developing over mid-canterbury, didn't know we were supposed to get any good rain today...

NZstorm, 'MetVUW' gets the GFS data from NCEP just like any 'ol 'third party' weather forecasting site.. so is the GFS. ;)

Was a nice day here with punchy small Cu about and 23C. :D
Looks as if the high building around us will strengthen considerably as it moves southeast and thus become very stubborn and hold off any rain chances we may have later next week.

Yeah, drizzle turned to rain for a time in central Chch & Addington too. Must've been localised, as Hillmorton station recorded nothing this evening. Small convergence zone?

I had a gut feeling the Metvuw would be something akin to the GFS (NCEP) but I havn't looked at Metvuw in a long while.
I often give the GFS a quick glance but generally don't follow it.

Some overnight showers in Auckland. A lot of low level moisture over the country at the moment.

Could of been, Ben,as it had been south to SE here all day whereas it was probably NE in town.
I was in the bath around 11pm and there was a substantial shower about that time but then easing off to drizzle.
Another 2.6mm in the rain-gauge since 10pm last night of which 2mm fell in that shower.

Fabulous sunset this evening, although the colours were confined to the lower horizons of the sky. Gold yellows and shades of orange faded and transitioned to a thin strip of soft pink before fading. Makes the evening walk much more peaceful and serene. :)

Yes a nice Sunset but good Otago sunsets are the best.

I see High preasure will probably be dominating our weather into next week as well.
Usually a good time of the year for Storms around here

Good to hear there was rain up in AK today... it got very dark at around 3.00 here and threatened... but nothing came of it.

Great balmy evening. 8)

ECMWF have a rather intense anticyclone moving over us later next week and sit off to the east. This should enhance a warm NE flow over the country if it eventuates?
I don't know if the Fiji TC will happen or not. If it does it won't affect our weather here in Canterbury.

Persistent high pressure over NZ is leading to more persistent troughing over eastern Australia with lots of Thunderstorms everyday in NSW and Vic according to the weatherzone satellite loops. The trough is looking more active over there in the modelling for next week.

We may see a warm front stall in the vicinity of northern NZ later this week.

Models have moved more in the direction of rain for the north from thursday.

This dizmal anticyclonic gloom is abit pitaful and when it rains with drizzle  it only just registers 1mm in the gauge which then burns off when the sun comes out again  .
It can be fine all it likes now, as long as there are thunderstorms to accompany the xmas- new year period when i am off work 8) :D .
Great tramping weather though at the moment with mild nights :-k .
Cheers
Jason.
