Its a fresh dry wind out there today.. so there must be a change of wind shortly to bring in the moist air.

Can see a small Cb to the very distant north similar to what you auckland folk were seeing thismorning. so the moist air must be moving south. wind has swung around too. :D :D

Yes. That is what I had in mind when posting. It's like your SW gales and our ENE gales.

Theyre ugly. I thought that moving out to West Melton, we may be rid of them, but no, well not today.
There must of been some strong gusts around but nothing really excessive has been recorded. I thought that Karen may of mentioned the strong winds spoiling the sunny day in Christchurch, but nothing was said.
Where is this drizzle and cloudy skies we are supposed to be getting? Things are drying out here.

You should be sheltered from them if they're just sea-breezes, but today the airflow is northeasterly anyway.

But the Auckland SW is much warmer than the Chch NE and we only get the SouthWester when the flow is SW( apart from local seabreeze) not a lot of South westerlies in Summer.

Warm humid NE here, down to 18C overnight. Probably not a lot of sun here today looking at the sat pic

Not a lot of sun for a few days now spwill. NZ will be the dumping ground for a lot of moisture over the next few days, firstly upper Northland and then the SI West Coast. Maybe Southland/Otago will get a lot of rain mid week too.

Whangarei up to 23mm and at Tapu (Coromandel Peninsula) there has been almost 40mm, must be more local heavier rain. Only 7mm here with gusty ENE, gusts 50km/h.

Fine misty rain began falling in Tawa just over an hour ago, bringing the temperature down.
Recorded the highest December temperature in the 3 years that I've been running the weather station 27.7 ºC at 12:36 p.m. Just narrowly pipped the 27.1 ºC recorded on 14 December 2005.
Very pleasant, and the rain will be welcomed by the shrubs and plants, not to mention the browned-off lawn.

Metservice aint done too well with their forecasts for us have they? No rain last night and a tiny bit yesterday and none the night before either. Rain radar is still mostly bare and yet they still have occasional rain for today and tomorrow, wonder why? :-k

Northland farmers were in raptures yesterday over the rain which has set them up well for the first part of summer. One said to RNZ National that at least he could relax a bit at Christmas, with pasture growth expected to be good well into January.

A balmy 18 ºC at Tawa overnight, and we've just clicked over to 20 ºC. Another nice day on the cards.
