Looks as if the Westland Ranges will have a large rain total this month, over 900mm at Waiho Rd from the last system and another warning issued for up to 350mm rain. :o

La Nina lead-in periods - or the early phases of La Nina - have produced some massive rainfall months in the past - eg Oct 1988 (record-breaking in the west of the SI with over 1900mm at Milford), Dec 1988 in Fiordland (521mm in a day at Milford), Dec 1995 (NZ record 2927mm at Cropp River) and Oct 1998 (very wet over a large range of western and some northern areas)
