WAP weather sites
Yay! I got an up-to-date cell phone for xmas, now discovering the WAP side of things. Are there any wx specific sites forum members access via WAP? I had a good look on the weather service site to see what they have.. only looks like txt alerts.
I couldn't get the Boltecs to show up on the phone, I can see the strikestar logo and the text but no strike map. Was there 'static' .gifs or .pngs of the strikemaps?
Cheers,
G

Re: WAP weather sites
do you mean specific WAP or just general web pages?
I do have a wap page
http://www.weather-display.com/windy/gb/wap/index.wml
and Ricky has a wap specific page now too
My old phone I could visit wap (and wap only) for 50C a pop
but my new phone handles normal web pages, no wap, but at 2$ a pop instead now!

Re: WAP weather sites
I'm with Telecom, and use their WAP service, but it's not amazing... On the WAP www, I haven't been able to find many WAP weather sites. MS runs ok, but not amazing. I'd like to find out if there are any also. Would be great for chasing!

Re: WAP weather sites
My site while not specifically wap does degrade to display passably on a Apache PDA Phone (MS CE type) it wont work though with the smaoll screen WAPS yet. I will be creating a wap text type interface at some stage as part of my changes

Re: WAP weather sites
I have this running for my detector and it works OK on my Motorola V360v. The trickiest part was creating the mapstrip.png file using Photoshop because the Auto-generate map strip only works for vector maps.ricky wrote:Does anyone have a phone capable of running Spark.clx ? After downloading and installing the Java MIDlet using the instructions at http://www.astrogenic.com/spark.html, ADD an entry in LINKS to "http://www.skywatcher.net.nz/spk/".

Re: WAP weather sites
Hey that's great Graeme, now I'm going to have to get it going for the Akl detector!
yes generating that map was the first obstacle.. i guessed it wasn't working because of the lack of a vector map but didn't look any further into it..

Re: WAP weather sites
What format do you need the vector data in? If the software can use standard ESRI shape files or one of the more common formats I can do an extract from the NZ Open GPS maps project.ricky wrote:yes generating that map was the first obstacle.. i guessed it wasn't working because of the lack of a vector map but didn't look any further into it..
