Temperature rocketed up in the last hour or so with the sun breaking through the end of the arch, from a pleasent 24C- 27C.
Looks like some steady rain crossing into south Canterbury at the moment, hopefully we will get some of that soon as long as the front doesnt weaken too much.
Cheers
Jason.

been a nice day out.
Was up near the bridle path road was today on the hills and it certainly is starting to get dry up there, as all can kind of see from the city.
Breezy NW today, but not howling and now looks to be the S coming up with rain.

cheers

Cool SW change arrived with some light spotty rain just enough to dampen the concrete  .
Could be some welcome rain in sight if the NI low spills some rain down the east coast early next week.
Cheers

Another day, yet another 30 plus temp on the way for Canterbury. Not such good news with a huge fire now blazing at Mt Cook Station, and another one yesterday at Cora Lynn

Its already 30.0 at Jeffs station in ChCh and its only 10am

Metservice will need to revise the maximums again!

And I see the metservice have now revised from 27 to 31. They may need to look again...31.7 last time I looked and still rising...might be a repeat of Saturday's 34/35?

I know Jeff said he got a record in December since he got started with his station, I'm picking he's going to get one for January too...if Saturday just gone wasn't already!

33.1 now....

Gonna be an almighty drop in temperature once the southerly hits, and probably the wind will be very strong and gusty for a while. (but I doubt we'll get more than 1mm from the change)

We are directly downwind of it, but about 5km, so its not of immediate concern. We got a lot of smoke when it started, but I think it must be largely out now as there is no longer any smoke in the air. As soon we saw the smoke billowing over I put our irrigation system on around the house and my wife drove up to Amberley to see how far away it was. Something like that certainly makes you jump. T/DP was around 31/2 late morning when the fire started, RH got as low as 17%, but now 32/12 with 29%. NW has increased in the last hour or two, around 20-25 knots gusting 35-40 now.

Seems like the hottest summer that I can remember... Haha, considering days over 25 and 30... Most days over 23 or 24

Cheers Tony, good to hear alls ok with you and yours there. Steady NW breeze through town now as well, temp has come back to 32

We are all praying this system from the tropics comes far enough down country next week for some steady rain
