I'm impressed with my new manual rain gauge (Nylex 1000) that I got about 11th Jan, tested its capacity to be ~275mm, and I put about 10.2mm into the tube yesterday to test how efficient it is at preventing evaporation - none of it had evaporated by the end of the day (just a little bit of condensation above the water level in the tube). Annoying thing is that it refuses to rain so I can compare it's accuracy with my automatic tipping bucket gauge. #-o

That's what I've got to measure rainfall. Theyr'e excellent....but
Dont trust those tipping bucket things.

Not working out here, cloudy and humid. :( After a sunny start, there have been quite a few dull days. Hopefully things start improving tomorrow. In this area the month's conditions have been like those in La Nina Jan 1956, but not like any recent La Ninas.

With the low level flow turning more SE over the NI today we should end up with very warm temps in the west. :)

I notice the latest GFS has pressures below 1000hpa over Northland by Monday. Should we believe it?

Looks like the upper N Island really will be a dumping ground (hopefully). Models also show very strong winds on Sunday...

A much warmer night again here, min of 18.7C, could be seeing a maximum of 26C at least if the sun gets through by this afternoon. About 0.1mm in the rain gauge overnight, maybe a bit of drizzle (or a heavy dew?), anyway it doesn't really do much for the ground.

[quoteInteresting that Auckland Airport still managed 27 ][/quote]

I dont think the Airport reached 27C yesterday ( There was a fresh SW blowing). Those Ak temps on TV One are sometimes taken from Whenupai or Whangaparoa I believe.

Should be a very warm sunny afternoon here, currently overcast 22C, 17C dewpoints, light SW.

This heat is awful!
Not even 1pm and already 26.8C
Could be seeing 28C if we're lucky, if it goes above 27.6 its my highest recorded temperature (since 01 Jan 2006).

Recorded 32.9 at 13:00 with the fan running full speed... its dropped back to 29.3 now, cloud has formed and thickened. Local elevation of 333.73m. Had my Wx Stn surveyed today, so I can have a discussion with CWOP over true location and that their map is not reference gridded correctly. ANyway, it is still 25ºC inside - I think the huge ground based AC unit is not up to scratch!

My webcam does not like the heat, it loses focus and drops back to 1ft FL. I can't get it out of the auto mode... I may have to strip it down and fix it!! I may have to provide a draught of cool air up in the attic!!

Actually in weather live his station is up to 30.6C and climbing fast!!
Yes that has been the pattern in Auckland recently, the temperature here peaked at 27.1C at 1pm, and since the NE sea breeze freshened a little it has been around 26C for the last 2 hours.

Phew!! It's HOT! 31C / dewpoint 18C
The lack of wind makes it worse... max gust of only 23km/h.

And we officially broke thirty for the first time since January 05 ! :D \:D/

A hot day for the NZ basins like here, Henderson, Taumarunui, Wanaka etc. Good to see some punchy cumulus about today too. 8)

The Central Otago heat will be dry heat, so a much warmer day in Hamilton than Alexandra, both reaching 31C.

It said it was hot in Hamilton on the useless TV One weather report. :x
I wish they would get rid of that stupid Reney person  :x
Where's Jim or Karen???
...or even Brendon? Brendon was good and he was male., evolving himself into a good weather presenter???

I get most of my weather info from off the net but I like to see the Media's imput at the end of the news.
TV3 weather is boring so I have a tendancy to miss it, sadly :(

Yes and it has it developing very quikly i noticed.

Spent the day in Whangamata and it was hot enough over there, then i hear it got to 31 back here so kind of glad i had the nice sea breeze. That must be getting close to hamiltons all time record wouldnt it???

Just been on the Environment Waikato site looking at river levels and alot of the rivers are breaking records for being at their lowest levels since records began.

Still SE here but the S'Wester will kick into Auckland today. Should be another hot one inland away from the cooling affects of the S'Wester.

There's pretty much nil wind here...
I thought it will be NE again here today in the east rather than SW across all of Auckland?
Interesting to see many places in Auckland had a hot night with lows 18 to 19, went down to 15.9C here (and 16.4C at Eastern Beach). It is indeed looking like another hot day, wouldn't be surprised if I record 27 again this afternoon.

Looking like another very warm day in northern NZ.

Looking like we will not see precipitation here in Auckland untill Sunday. I am not convinced about the afternooon showers today given a SW breeze which often stymies summertime convection over AK. And looking too warm upstairs for thunder in the Waikato I think.
