Re: Possible thunderstorms 10-11 Feb
Some good heavy showers going through the Greytown area now. Have had about 6mm in the last 20mins.
Good to see some rain at last - but ofcourse we need a lot more.

Thunderstorm near Ngaruawahia at 2:45pm moving eastwards. Should pass just north of Hamilton during the next hour or so.j--me--h wrote:Just heard a distant long rolling rumble out to the west. and another.

Re: Possible thunderstorms 10-11 Feb
Wow what an exciting day, despite no thunder
Went quite dark before 11am with a good 20min shower, heavy for a time, totaling 6mm. At about 1.50pm, noticed a very dark cloud, it got very dim, and there was a good 10-15minute gusty downpour totaling 12mm. A much needed and much appreciated 18mm The ground is nice and wet.
I can see the atmosphere is unstable today, on the walk home I was teased by convective style raindrops (large ones) three times out of shallow cumulus.

Didn't annoy me Boris...not at all...
Just amused that drought always seem to break around cricket matches, they should play them more often!

Went for a drive south this afternoon, photo shows Cb cloud over Waikato and Cu build up .
Just 3mm rain here today so our big dry continues.

Re: Possible thunderstorms 10-11 Feb
Where did you end up spwill?
I chased it after seeing rapidly rising skud and the odd quik rotation in the beast. I ended up at the end of Tauhei rd where it meets with Morrinsville Tahuna rd. At one stage i had a visiblity of about 100m maby less with gusts of good sized hail as i punched through it to get in front of it. Had continuous thunder too. There was no was i could get enough infront of it to see the cloud tops
I took some photos and ill put a few up shortly

We have had 12.5mm here today. 8.5mm this morning and 4 this afternoon. Our neighbour that lives 3km down the raod had 6mm this morning and 26mm this afternoon. He got the thunderstorm that just mised us and i chased. Talk about isolated.
