weather stations

Im wanting to purchase a weather station, there has to be some they should be avoided and others that are outstanding.
Not wanting a top of the line but something between $0-$500.
What would you guys recommend and not recommend.

You might be best to look at the Honeywell IROX station as it is a good wireless station that allows you to place equipment in the best positions and is not too expensive. Not sure of the actual price though. You will be needing Weather-Display software though - popular throughout the world and designed and created by a Kiwi, originally for the America Cup races in Auckland. Yeah, he is an Aucklander but more of a farmer than the city types...
Hmmm Manukau Heads observer comes to mind....

looks like a La Crosse 2310 type station, using WHUHU software
Not the station type I would recommend for a coastal environment (due to the anenometer easilu seizing up (I know from experience))

Im looking at getting one myself.
How much does it cost to have your weather stations online? Also is it very hard to get all set up and have it online? How much more is it to have a web cam running?
Any info would be greatfull

It'll be interesting to see the micro-climatics of Macandrew Bay, it being sheltered from the southerlies by 300m hills and open to the sun and harbour reflection. I hope you can get your own dot on the paradise weather station page Janos...

Ended up purchasing a ws 2300 second hand.
The opportunity to purchase presented itself and the price was to good to say no to.
If the anenometre seizes its always an option to purchase another one, although we dont get too
much salt where we live.
There seems to be alot of these stations around.
I have it linked to weather wunderground..at no cost.

A footnote...interestingly the other station in Macandrew bay is identical.
Different elevation and positioning.
