Drizzle has turned to light rain now and temps are rising. Definitely a no-snow event but great for the lakes.

Met Service have just revoked their heavy snow warning for South Canterbury and Otago.

The rain is very welcome though.

edit2: strikes moving north towards us, anyone see anything? i see nothing.

Funny that they do that as the snow really starts falling (in otago at least)

Like how they pulled the Milford Road snowfall warning last night, only to put it back up this morning, with the introduction that snow had already settled on the road. ](*,)

No doubt this is a touch and go system in many respects, but it seems pretty obvious that at least "wet" snow will fall, especially at higher elevations, and quite heavily at times.

Good luck with the Action Weather up there, guys! It's always more entertaining in the north, when it comes to stuff like that.

Nice and warm here now and getting warmer. The rain has almost stopped and the cloud base lifted quite a bit. Little-or-no snow on the Lindis yet: we may see some tonight but it doesn't look too likely.

How about you send some lightning down here to make things interesting for us Southerners? :)

Had a rumble of thunder here just now, there was one earlier this morning at 9am as well (not close), when at the time it went very dark, I had not seen it that dark in the day for a long time. 4.3mm overnight and 4.3mm since 7.30am here.

Yay, the stars are out here now!

MS got the moisture part right and, if it had got a wee bit cooler, might have been correct about the snow too, so good work by them.

Not enough rain to have much of an impact on the lakes, unfortunately. And of course no snow at all, even on the tops, due to the highish temperatures.

Maybe all the locals predicting another snowless, winterless winter may be right again too.

"Snow in May, there's no way!
Snow in June, don't be a spoon!
Snow in July, that's a lie!
Snow in August, not even dust."

The recent rain has washed away the remnants of the snowfall from a few weeks back, which is good because there is some moonlight tonight and I'm planning to get some imaging in.

It's very clear and cold on the mountain right now. Observatory warmrooms are wonderful things! No more of that 'standing around a telescope and getting frostbite' method of astronomy.

Im a tad surprised wasn't a thunder clap in that sporadic shower we had earlier actually, was very dark and came in with howling winds, heavy rain and hail for about 10 mins.
No thunder heard
