January 2008 In Taupo produced 23.0mm (0.92in); February 39.5mm (1.58in); March 54.5mm (2.18in) with 21.0mm falling on March 31.
This is a total for the first three months of 117mm (4.68in).
Over the past three weeks in April 14to May 04 (inclusive) 268.0mm (10.72in) have been recorded.
A total of 143mm fell in 24hours on April 15.
My observations are made 1.5km north of the Taupo CBD at approximately 500m above sea level or around 1,500ft.
I have made observations in Taupo regularly for almost 40 years and was at Mauriceville in the Wairarapa when I hade a Government rainguage where I recorded a similar 24 hour fall to April 15 this year on April 10 1968 the day of the Wahine tragedgy.
Recent rainfall is a record for a three-week period at this time of the year.
