I dunno...sometimes it sure feels like -20 °C at Manapouri power station...or while at the bottom of the cable shafts, at least.

The airport has been reporting fog until at least 12pm today, partial fog until at least 2pm, and still fog nearby at 3pm! The fog had mostly cleared where I was around 9am, a few km's from home, where the fog persisted until after 10am. Metservice are forecasting more fog tomorrow morning.
I'll have to get a new digital thermometer now after 2 and a half years of good operation. Several days back it said the low was -2.0C and I have come home to find it had reported -36.5C since I left this morning! GRRR!

Feels quite cold here tonight,on 6° clear, the only bad thing of it is the condensation stuffing the window sills and the curtains getting wreckedunless one has DVS.

Mid May has now passed so an un-placid May seems likely?

Very placid weather for Auckland this week, fine with high cloud, light winds, temps a little below the average but very pleasant

Re: Placid mid-May
Just a little breeze here yesterday and today 15-25km/hr gently dropping the dead leaves now a dull broan colour rather than the bright golds of a fortnight ago. Back on the bike today again into the southerly to work, lovely day though. GFS showing fine right into the long weekend. More chance to work on the house before winter...

Re: Placid mid-May
was a light late frost in parts of the waikato this morning. Was down there last night and it was a frost right on the brink of dawn as the sun came up. Was quite amazing how when i got up at 6.45 it was only cold and no ice, then around 7.30 there were ice patches.

Re: Placid mid-May
We were doing well up to 22nd - now this is the 6th day of SE/S crud apart from a short break o/night and some of this morning. A couple of light showers have returned. Dry in VBuller, and New Plymouth will be near-record sunshine for the month.

Re: Placid mid-May
Quite good weather here lately with the SE flows so sunshine will be up on the average for Auckland this month but it has been cooler than normal.
I''m guessing a cooler month than normal for much of NZ.

Re: Hotter wetter drier frost free.
Wait a few days for the monthly summary. The totals are pretty low, may get a minor topup this weekend. A lot of anticyclonic NE/E/SE - the last of which gave W'gton a miserable spell after a lengthy benign one. N Plymouth has clocked up a lot of sunshine MTD, not far from a record.

Typical La Niña winter, nothing much on the Horizon yet. Unnervingly quiet
