Michael, have you ever thought of moving? Maybe check out the lifestyle at, say, Dalandzadgad, or Pedro de Valdivia?

:P

Question: How do you get a wind chill when its calm..... Because Metservices site..

"Observed Wind-Chill

Feels like -4 °C
4 layers of clothing are recommended to remain comfortable in these conditions."

When its -1.. Dampness?

when its calm the windchill calcultion should then default to the temperature
thats how I work it

We had iced cars, deck and roofs out here this morning. There was only a few small patches of grass frost though. My thermometer recorded a low of 0.3C. 'Twas Chilly!!

I saw on 3 news tonight they ran a story about the 'green drought' in the Waikato. Just adds to my thoughts that i stated a couple of days ago. The farmer interviewed is just down the road from Mum and Dads place. Officials are even going to be getting together to revise the situation which suprised me. There will be alot of farmers praying for rain this month. Dad said the only good thing is he will hardly have to take the cows off the paddok this winter and wont be picking calves up in mud lol.

There has been some good showers over the last week
problem has been the early frosts.....which has lowered the soil temperature....just what was not needed when trying to build up grass cover after the long hot dry summer!!

and 10 tonne or double that is put on by Farmers....

The models are and have for some time been forecasting a massive anticyclone to move across the country from Wednesday onwards. I mean massive in terms of pressure - models show up to 1038hPa at this stage! :o

This, of course, should mean frosty mornings :)

Yes, well after today's events there could be some good frosts on the way, maybe see our pipes frozen again.

3.6ºC this morning - and a lovely day - beautiful clear skies; barometer has risen from 1003 to 1015 and flattened out for now. I am expecting a good frost tonight!! A max today of only 10.3ºC and now DP and RH are rising. Still cloudless...

I think it "only" got to 19C! Wasn't predicted on the initial forecasts, and what a rollercoaster ride they've had in Timaru the last few days!

June has started on the warm side after the cold May. The weekend snow down south disappeared very quickly .
Niwa prediction for average to above average temps is on track, just need the rain here now.

Rain about the Alps and also Waikato needed. Looks pretty dry over most of NZ for the rest of this week, but SI West Coast should get good falls by the weekend.

Interesting forecast from Metservice about next Saturday's weather, especially here in the South Island.

Saturday

North Island, cloudy periods, but fine in the east. South Island, rain in the west, easing to showers south of Greymouth, cloudy periods in the east, with a few showers in the far showers.

I would like to know where the far showers are, that the few showers are likely to occur???? :?
...or even how far the showers are going to be, within the few showers that the far showers that are forecasted to happen within the few showers that could be far showers?????
...but then, could that be just a few showers...anyway?
.... or could they could be far? #-o
Bob McDavitt, could you enlighten me on this ? #-o ](*,)

Auckland has been sunnier and warmer than much of NZ of late Michael.

i had an exceptional day yesterday. Nice fine winters day. virtually no wind to speak of. Ive got some great photos from my hot air balloon ride and will upload a few of them when mum and dads computer is fixed. Went to the fieldays as well and i think everyone was making the most of the great weather because it was rather busy for the 1st day. So far June this 1st half of June has been great for fine weather and snow. Bring on the next half with more snow, fine weather and thunderstorms :)

i did some investigating on weather stations at the fieldays and i think i can convince dad to get one so hopefully sometime this year there will be a weatherstaion representing the middle of nowhere lol. He is situated between Gordonton, Taupiri and Horshamdowns.
