Complete with the now standard errors (writing April instead of May, not changing column headings between tables). Still an interesting read though.

Re: NIWA's May 2008 Summary
I see they note that khyber pass road (where i live) recieved 84mm on the 4th in 24 hours. Im glad it was recorded how much fell in that storm. Most of that 84mm would have fallen in a bit over an hour.

Yes, most of the months rain came down in one downpour that night.Im glad it was recorded how much fell in that storm. Most of that 84mm would have fallen in a bit over an hour.
Interesting to see such a cold month for NZ, Auckland weather was generally good but cool.

Interesting that they show Wellington as having 100mm for the month, I'd like to know which site that is from. I thought MetService was showing 180mm for Kelburn at the end of the month, thats quite a big difference.

Re: NIWA's May 2008 Summary
The Met Service site is confused about the boundaries of months and was counting April 30th's 94.4mm in May! 100mm is not quite right either - Met's reports in DomPost say about 103 and that is probably correct. The sun total is probably 144 not 139. Won't know correct values till they appear in the Digest, or verify at Cliflo in a few days. Interesting that Wallaceville had only about 36mm, a very sharp gradient across the region. Much of Kelburn's rain fell in a 6-day S/SE spell which in the SE phase would normally deliver quite a lot of rain to the Hutt Valley.

Re: NIWA's May 2008 Summary
It was the first colder than normal May for NZ since 1996 - between then and now May has often been much warmer than normal. May 2007 was about 2.5C warmer than this May.

Re: NIWA's May 2008 Summary
I see Auckland managed 125% of normal sunshine. I was suspecting an above average value, looking through my May daily records there were 9 days I would class as 'mainly fine and sunny'.
In May 2007 in AK we had the lowest rainfall on record and much warmer than normal temps! What a contrast!

Re: NIWA's May 2008 Summary
May this year was far more settled and sunny with less wind overall but the worst time of the year for the guttering and leaves due to constant SE or SW winds as May is such a messy month for leaves here having to clear them every 2 days rather than several weeks.
