The rain was always going to get heavier going by MSLP maps just look at the midnight run :) .
Wind sure is gusting strong now nearly on gale 50+kmh, reminds me of a simular event in the year 2000 but will we get up to 100kmh winds :-k .
I watched one news weather tonight and Windy Wellington had gusts up to 140kmh for tomorrow morning phew :D probly more like a gale for wellingtion i guess.
Edit- Strong wind warning now out from MS for Banks Peninsula gusting up to 120kmh at times overnight.
Cheers

Heavy rain warning is for areas from Culverden northwards - certainly solid rain here, but probably not enough for a warning.

It really is heavy out there, sometimes torrential enough for lots of white spray to be blown all over the road.

latest radar showing theres plenty of life in this yet. If anything the system seems to be building in stregnth. Looks like the heavy precip boundary is further south than what met service were thinking.

We have had intense rain here all day pretty much. We can't walk out of our driveway because the water is up to our knees. Dam council said they were going to fix that and they put a sink hole in but it has done nothing...
The rain is so heavy I can hear it above my music, and my music is pretty loud. It's almost louder than hail.

The Avon (near Antigua Boatsheds) tonight is the highest I've seen it for a few years, covering the rocky ledges recently installed.

Look at that, Jeff recorded over 2 inches now.

Seems just as heavy here as it was a few hours ago.

Up to 23mm here since midday yesterday obviously not as much as other areas.
Still some heavy showers moving through with even sleet in them so the snow level must be down to about 200m this morning, if it is i dont think any would settle as the duration of the showers are very short lived.
Cheers

looks like it was more of a plains and foothills thing. Precip totals backed off quickly west of the foothills. Craigieburn only got 16cm. Not enough E in it to push inland maybe? radar still showing plenty of shower activity on the plains.

Yes the heavier rain was more confined to the Canterbury region east of the Alps from about Rakia northwards, so wouldnt have reached into the Mc kensie basin where the rainfall totals are needed to fill the hydro lakes.
Looks like another possible but interesting event coming up for Friday, early days but once again we wait with baited breath :) .
Cheers
